Hi, I was wondering if anybody knows of any travel agents in Vancouver (on on the net) that do good deals for discount J or F class travel on CX (YVR-JFK). My parents are going this summer, and I"m trying to locate good deals. So far, web search has not been very fruitful. Thanks very much for any advice you might have......

If you are looking for good deals to Asia from Vancouver, usually those Chinese Travel Agent in the city is the best place to start. I am saying this based on my experience from Y tickets, so I can't gurantee the deals for C/F tickets. I usually get great deals from them (as they have private deals with CX), so they might also have C/F deals. Let us know how it turns out. I have always been interested in cheap C fares from YVR to HKG for my parents.

OK, I'll try a couple of names my cousin gave me. Lots of her colleagues are visiting HK/China on a regular basis. I'll call tomorrow and see what kind of prices they can quote...

As far as I know, there are no longer discounted J and F class tickets to be had from Canada. I tried getting one last year from Toronto and was told that there was none.

Discount Business class tickets are still available on airlines such as Korean Air, Japan Airlines, China Airlines etc. (only available from travel agents)

However for Cathay Pacific, and Air Canada they are not available. (if you buy from a Chinese travel agent, they can give you a CAD 100 discount IF YOU ASK)

For First Class tickets, there are still some discounts available. Usually 20% off the published F fare for CX tickets to Hong Kong purchased at some chinese travel agents.

In my case, I boubht a CX/UA F class RTW ticket for only CAD 6110+tax (it might be discountinued), or CAD 4790+tax for Business Class.

CX also has a Business Class Round the World fare with Virgin Atlantic Airways for CAD 4790+tax (might be discontinued).-Not available for First Class.

Typical Cathay Pacific/Virgin Atlantic RTW routing:

YVR - JFK (CX)-J
JFK - LHR (Virgin)- Upper Class
LHR - HKG (CX)-J
HKG - BKK - SIN (CX)-J
SIN - HKG CX-J
HKG - YVR CX - J

Fakecd, I checked with your travel agent. Unfortunately, the prices I can get out of BKK are so much better that I would be hard pressed to buy tickets here.

YVR-JFK (bought here)

J-CAD 5654 (about 3769 USD)
Y-CAD 1980 (about USD 1320)

Note: costs a bit more in peak season (after July 22)

BKK-YVR (bought in Bangkok)

J- B94,000 (about USD 2089)
Y- B27,000 (about USD 600)

Oh, and I remember CX/UA RTW (J class) is 100,000 Baht (or about USD 2222)

So, hard to beat those prices, and as long as I'm going back and forth, I'll continue to buy there. Unfortunately, the best quote I can get for my parents from here to JFK is CAD 5,798!! About the same as flying to Bangkok! Crazy pricing systems.

I appreciate your follow-up. I am sorry that "he" couldn't do any better, but unfortunately it's nobody's fault. (unless you choose to blame the authority http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif) Then it does seem that getting ticket issued in Bangkok is the best choice. After all, that's what most of the frequent travellers do. By the way, I thought the good deal from CX/UA has ended as of May 31st. I forgot who, but someone posted that.

Sorry I couldn't be your help. Best wishes for your parents and your next trip!

Fakecd, thanks for the tip anyway. Michael was very nice and professional-- it's just that the pricing structure here is higher than in BKK. Daniellam, thanks so much for the tip. I'll check with fakecd's agent to see if he can get this fare. By the way, how did you discover this little gem?

More on the results in a day or two.

Oh,and you may be right about the CX/UA RTW tickets. Now that I think about it,the travel agent mentioned that she was not sure if the offer was still valid. I'll wing her off an email to check.
