I decided to start the process of going for LH M&M SEN status using a MR on US in first class, using the F73 fare, $554 RT all incl. I was able to do 8 segments, SFO-PIT-PHL-CLT-FPO-CLT-DCA-PIT-SFO, for 31000 status miles (due to the FC fare giving 300% of actual, after giving 1000 miles/segment,) and 62000 award (aka bonus) miles, due to the 2x promo on LH/US.

The bulk of these segments were on A321's which I liked a little better than the 757's that AA uses. It seems a little wider and taller. The seats are about the same, so after six relatively short hops, (PIT-PHL-CLT and then CLT-FPO-CLT-DCA-PIT,) the PIT-SFO was a little uncomfortable. We hit a weather front in the Midwest on the PIT-SFO segment, and the A321 seemed to handle it well. Much better than AA's MD-80's do, though I would not expect AA to use an MD-80 for this trip length, either.

One thing that really impressed me were the airports, as that is about all I saw, other than the Clarlotte Hyatt which was ok but then for $67, well worth it for 1/2 of a FFN nite. PIT was huge, with much to do and see. DCA was incredible, the architecture impressive and they have a great Legal Seafood's restaurant, landside, near security check-in. Excellent, especially after so many flights with only drinks and a bag of chips/nuts.

But the mistake I made was not staying over in Freeport. I haven't been to the Bahamas in 30 years and it looked incredible. The sea is the most beautiful turquiose color and clear. The weather was perfect, 80's breezy and little humidity. Next trip, coming soon, a couple days soaking in the warm water and mixing up the rum drinks.

Anyway, I strongly recommend it.

You just had to do it! How can you tell me about Freeport with the cold weather we have been having? This was a great find price wise and Freeport sounds even better. Congrats.

One year ago 2 people got attacked in Freeport by sharks, at the same resort! I believe one person died but I am not sure. One attack was very early AM and the other at about 6pm. Apparently this is when the sharks go feeding.

I bit a shark once. It was too tough so I sent it back and got the Mahi Mahi.

Seriously, no matter where you go, Kauai, Maui, Bahamas, So Cal beachs, there will be shark incidents. They are few and far between and usually avoidable, with attention to where you are and what's around you.

Remember that we are guest in their home. If they want to get to know us better, they will... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I agree attacks are few. However 2 at the same resort within 3 months of each other is a bit too much for me. In fact the resort changed it's name.

Those were the days...my employer used to give award trips to the Bahamas so everything was paid and arranged plus some spending money thrown in.

My husband dislikes sitting on a beach so we didn't see any sharks. However, we enjoyed riding the local busses around and renting scooters. He liked driving on the wrong side of the road but it made me nervous. The scooters allowed us to explore areas where the busses didn't go and we sure saw lots of hot water heaters and appliances thrown out along the undeveloped roads.

This was before Paradise Island was fully developed and you could just drive over the bridge and explore the beaches.
