I decided to start the process of going for LH M&M SEN status using a MR on US in first class, using the F73 fare, $554 RT all incl. I was able to do 8 segments, SFO-PIT-PHL-CLT-FPO-CLT-DCA-PIT-SFO, for 31000 status miles (due to the FC fare giving 300% of actual, after giving 1000 miles/segment,) and 62000 award (aka bonus) miles, due to the 2x promo on LH/US.
The bulk of these segments were on A321's which I liked a little better than the 757's that AA uses. It seems a little wider and taller. The seats are about the same, so after six relatively short hops, (PIT-PHL-CLT and then CLT-FPO-CLT-DCA-PIT,) the PIT-SFO was a little uncomfortable. We hit a weather front in the Midwest on the PIT-SFO segment, and the A321 seemed to handle it well. Much better than AA's MD-80's do, though I would not expect AA to use an MD-80 for this trip length, either.
One thing that really impressed me were the airports, as that is about all I saw, other than the Clarlotte Hyatt which was ok but then for $67, well worth it for 1/2 of a FFN nite. PIT was huge, with much to do and see. DCA was incredible, the architecture impressive and they have a great Legal Seafood's restaurant, landside, near security check-in. Excellent, especially after so many flights with only drinks and a bag of chips/nuts.
But the mistake I made was not staying over in Freeport. I haven't been to the Bahamas in 30 years and it looked incredible. The sea is the most beautiful turquiose color and clear. The weather was perfect, 80's breezy and little humidity. Next trip, coming soon, a couple days soaking in the warm water and mixing up the rum drinks.
Anyway, I strongly recommend it.
