LH 4851 MAN-FRA
Dept 1215P - Nov 16
A320 - Seat 10F
After a long journey that started from SFO I arrived in MAN under cloudy skies. Having flown in Envoy w/US entitled me to use the SAS Radisson for a shower and I headed straight there upon landing. The hotel is located inside the airport in between terminals connected by the enclosed passage way. The lobby is pleasant and I was given a room on the Scandinavian floor. After a refreshing bath I went straight to LH to check-in.
Check-in counter was manned by one person and it was not very crowded. When the agent tried to check me in he mentioned that there was a seat already reserved for me which was 11F. As I mentioned on the previous report on US Airways, the US agent in PIT confirmed my seating but when I called LH reservations in the USA they said that no seating assignment was given. It seems that the res systems are communicating properly. I then proceeded to the gate and decided to pick up a sandwich at Boots. Sandwich was about 1.80 pounds and not very good compared to the ones bought in N. America. It consisted of dry chicken chunks with cucumber and a splash of mayo.
MAN is a big airport and the LH gate did not post until about 35 minutes before departure. Instead of waiting for the gate to post, I took a look around the terminal and tried to guess where the gate will be by spotting the LH plane. At the gate, I was greeted professionally and at that point was changed to an EMERG EXIT seat upon request. The flight was not very full - about 75% and I had the seat next to me empty. Boarding was announced and it was a zoo. No priority or courtesy boarding was extended and everybody was out there for himself/herself. There was a cart at the entrace of the aircraft with newspapers and magazines. The cabin was clean and I love the leather seats in the grey/yellow outline. It is very distinctive and the FA's were cheerfully greeting everyone onboard. There were 4 crew members and the 2 working the Y section looked like models. The EMERG row provided decent legroom but I feel that US carriers provided more legroom in those seats.
Pretty soon we were ready to depart and because I was seated in a window seat I had the chance to view the beautiful terrain around MAN. The sun was peeking through the clouds and it was mesmerizing to see the difference tones of green on the patches below. Undoubtedly the UK has some of the most beautiful contrysides in the world.
Service was corteous and efficient. I was able to see through First Class since only half the curtain was closed and they were served a meal tray. Back in Y we were given a Snack with a choice of either Cheese OR Ham sandwich. I chose the Cheese sandwich and it had the size of a small baguette with a splash of butter, 2 thick slices of what appears to be cheddar cheese and lettuce. The bread was crusty and chewy unlike the ones given by British Midland, which are dried and taste like cardboard. Overall this was a pleasant trip and I was glad to receive something for such a short flight (about 1.5 hour).
