Sorry this is so late. Really underwater recently with stuff.
5th trip to Australia. Flew UA, see write up under UA. Arrived 27 Aug. Stayed Hilton 6 nights (see write up under Hilton).
Spent first few days without a car checking out the local attractions. Included are:
Victoria Bridge..walk and view--
Maritime Museum (only saw from outside)-- South Parklands...great place. Has a sandy beach with lifeguard, safe swimming area, oriental temple shops and scenic meandering walkway--
Bus to Mt Coot La, reasonable price, great views, photo opportunity, have a brew, cold--
Freedom bridge, nice walk, bike ride, views--
Art Museum, material mix for all tastes--
History Museum, well worth an hour or two.
Then it was in a car. Definately rent from Avis, Wilson's Car Park. Great guy, free upgrade and a no hassles rental! The rate I paid was so low that I will not disclose it here (even less that I signed up for and 25% lower that on Tassie with budget!).
Alma Zoo ($37 for 2 seniors) is an easy walk around friendly zoo, suitable for adults but great for children. The Emus are in open area, peacocks abound, great display of bats,Koalas actually awake and walking around (on 4s), Roos to feed, various water fowl, a number of Marmasets--
Toowoomba, a nice drive to the East up into the mountains that surely very few US visitors would ever make. Nice views. Great Japanese Park/Garden with lake, shop at the market place and get some fresh pastry for you snacking---
Now on our way to Coolum (Hyatt, see separate write up under Hyatt).
Australian Zoo , a bit different. Steve, the aligator crazy from the Travel Channel owns this one. The Aligator show is the main attraction, but also see the lizards, birds, roos, wallobys, koalas and more--
Pine Historic Village, only open 1 day a week for full operations--
Underwater World (A40/29US for 2 adults), located in Mooloolaba. Well worth the visit. Also Hogs Breath a block away for a brew and sandwitch---
Others not seen, but worthy of visiting (per my research) Forest Glen Sanctuary and the Big Pineapple.
Stayed at Quest Ascot, near AP to do laundry and repack for next leg to Tassie (see separate write up to be done tomorrow if I can find the time).
