YVR Cockroach
Nov 18, 03, 7:50 pm
On a $242.50 including tax/fees ticket. Booked through NWA.com as
NW SEA-DTW-MEM-FLL IAH-MSP-SEA
CO FLL-IAH
D-5 Noted that about 0040 CT that my NW flights were EUA'd. One flight wasn't but NW was probably holding it for full fare fliers.
Thanks to Elena's tip, I called NW WP desk to get the CO flight upgraded.
D-2 Noted that the sole remaining unupgraded flight had F1 (was F0 for a few weeks) so called WP to upgrade this one too.
11 Nov.
GF dropped me at SEA. Went up to NW area to echeckin. As my itnerary was essentially 6 legs, web and self-serve checkin would not work. Showed it tot he agent who was surprised (she had to print it from her terminal).
Heart sank when I asked her what time the WC opened until and she told me it shut at 230p (after the NRT flight and some others leave). Shuttled over to the Doubletree where happy hour wasin progress. 26oz hefeweizen, chicken wings and 12" pepperoni pizza only came to $12.
Went back to terminal. Noted that the South satellite shuttle is closed on evenings until late December so it's a walk to B4 to get the bus shuttle. Shoes off at security though my shoes didn't beep.
NW 753 SEA-DTW 2D
The aircraft had been in for a few hours so no need for cleaning, refuelling and catering. Boarding started just after 10p for a 1040p departure. Some 190 souls with FC being 24/24. In a departure from other airlines, NW labels FC ABCD instead of ACDF.
Have a G&T predeparture. Stayed awake long enough to know the a/c headed north for takeoff to the south. Slept most of the way except waking midflight for a glass of water, which my seatmate also took advantage of.
Landing into DTW slightly early with no idea of direction. Heard chatterbox in 1D talk to 1C about why NW was so great (EUA and showers in the main WC).
Flight landed at one end of the terminal. Took the peeople mover to the central stop, got to the club early and grabbed one of the 2 showers. Not much food other than muffins so I drank some OJ before perusng through the GM shop and then peoplemoved to the other end of the terminal for the MEM flight.
NW 320 DTW MEM
Uneventful flight. Just had OJ and was offered some granola bars.
Only 45 minutes to change flights despite an ontime landing. No time to visit the lounge.
NW 319 MEM FLL 2D
Uneventful flight. Food was actually served.
Cornflaks and milk, banana, yoghurt, bagel and cream cheese. Had a nice view of Tampa, Sarasota amd Sanibel/Captiva en route to FLL.
Landing a few minutes ahead, I noted a CO flight to IAH at the adjacent gate. Ask if I could get on this flight at which point I was empathically turned down.
CO 149/NW6161 FLL 0245 IAH 6A 752
The a/c operatng this flight had been sitting at FLL for at least 3 hours. CO probably cannot justify fuller utilisation. Watched the ground crew turn on the a/c, refuel and cater slowly.
Uneventful takeoff to the east before turning for IAH. Snack was served which was a cold plate with some slices of meat, cheese, grapes, an orange segment and other stuff I forget. Ontime arrival into IAH. Had to change from a C gate to a B one. Mercifully the C gate was very near the people mover. Noted that there's only one now while work is done to extend the network to other terminals.
NW IAH 1810(?) MSP 319 1A
Get to C gate (this was another 45 minute connect) to see no NW a/c there. Waited past the new arrival time to see still no a/c (38 minutes to go at this point) before calling the NW 800 line to find out the real status (in at 1750). Went to the CO lounge against agent's advise to get a drink and snack.
A/c arrived with boarding beginning around 1830 with pushback soon after. Hear FAs say that there was snow in MSP with the a/c needing to deice causing the delay.
Soon after boarding, the gate agent comes in and asks me fo my BP for some reason. I never get it back so hope the miles post.
Dinner served was salad, chicken and cheesecake. Typical NW fares. Steel knives as was the other NW flight. Chatted with seatmate who had flown from MEX to MSp 6 times inas many weeks. Poor Malaysian colleague (they both work for 3M) gets hassled by INS each and every time. Tells me that the fastest way from C16 is using the skywalk (to get to the F gates).
Do so but notice that quite a few walkways my direction are closed. It's a long walk for a connection reduced by some 30 minutes. Have barely enough time to check in for a drink at the lounge. Ask lounge agent for proof of boarding for the previous flight. She tells me that is some seat verification issue.
NW MSP SEA 2302 2C 752
Finally, the last flight. Grab some magazines to read for this flight as the rack was above me. Had a few drinks and snacks from the snack basket. Cabin temp was rather warm on this flight. Was questioning why I was here.
Slightly early arrival into SEA fromt he south so a long taxi to south satellite. Off quickly through 2L and onto the bus.
So left SEA just over 24 hours ago and bacl safely.
