Went to the London DO from 11/8 to 11/11. Flew the following on AA:

LAX-ORD 11/7 in domestic F
ORD-LHR 11/8 in intl Business
LHR-ORD 11/11 in intl Business
ORD-LAX 11/11 in domestic F

Used 25K miles each way to upgrade to domestic F/intl Business. Didn't have to play CO lottery, buy up to a H fare on UA (bought ticket in Feb 2003, sweet spots weren't out yet), etc. Paid $250 base plus taxes. My comp to AA Plat came just in time. My double miles posted already.

Service on all legs were very good. I had only a 36 min connections in ORD on my outbound flight. Due to high winds in ORD, I arrived 15 min before the LHR flight was scheduled to depart. I had a long way to walk! I walked very fast & made the flight 10 min before takeoff. AA gets alot of credit for keeping the door open. They called my name as I was entering the plane. Nice of AA to be accomodating.

Lounges:

Since I was traveling in intl business class, I was entitled to use the lounges. The LAX Admiral's Club (AC) was brand new & spacious. I am used to UA RCC's and it was nice to see what AA had to offer. AA had showers, PC's to access e-mail & internet. (flyertalk comes to mind http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif) The decor was new as it was a brand new lounge. Too bad domestic UA RCC's don't have showers & most don't have stand alone PC's. (I don't want to lug my ancient (1999 version) laptop very often. The only food at the LAX AC were pretzels & a cracker mix. That is one area they really need to improve in. I was not given a drink chit there.

The London arrivals lounge was small but decent. They had showers, lite snacks, & drinks. Also had some finger sandwiches closer to lunch time. Unlike UA where one can only use the arrivals lounge on paid/award Bus/F, I can use the AA arrivals on an upgraded ticket. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif (upgraded tickets no good for UA arrivals at LHR http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif).

The London AC before my return flight LHR-ORD was good. Although the AC didn't have internet PC's (the LHR UA RCC has PC's), they did have showers. What made my time go quickly was that I saw several FTer's at the AC. The ORD AC was nice. I received one drink chit. (usually get two from the UA RCC's) ORD AC had PC's and I noticed there was a Flyertalker on that PC accessing FT the day before. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Landed at LAX on 11/11 just a few minutes late.

Bottom line: I enjoyed the AA service & the food on AA was decent in business. AA will be seeing alot more of me next year. I will fly UA to Asia & also fly some domestics.

Black card, here I come on AA! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif Looking forward to the 16 VIP's! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
