Honolulu Trip Report for Monday, October the 20th, 2003
Pallensf - on his sunny HNL trip to visit his parents for their 44th wedding anniversary.
Well here it goes...this probably won't be the most exciting trip report, but alas...I will give it my best shot.
This is an SFO-HNL report flown on HA with and upgrade to 1st class.
I am sitting here in seat 2C aboard the 767-300 ER ( ETOPS ) bird. HA really has some great planes as they are simply immaculate. Funny, I usually fly United to the islands, but I got this amazing internet only deal of $255 RT...OK, that's a SUPER DEAL.
Then upon check in, I paid the $250 for my cozy seat of 2C. I am actually drinking a bloody mary as I am typing this. Quel dommage for my poor liver...LOL.
SFO was pretty busy for a Monday morning...lots of Delta people checking in for various flights.
Love how SF has the 1st class security lines as I swooshed by the long line for regular security.
Any the who, got to gate 40 and awaited my boarding process. Boarding was to commence @ 8am, and we were scheduled to depart @ 840am.
Before I forget, the we took off on 28L, heading to FL340, and the flight time was a fast 4 hours and 51 minutes.
As some people may find this interesting, HA offers juices, water and sparkling wine for pre-departure bevvies, nice touch. Also, there was a hot towel serivce once we were airborn...again, nice touch. Mahalo HA...;-)
Gee, I cannot believe that my laptop battery is already half gone...that sucks. I'll have to write the remaining pieces once I get to mom & dad's place in Pearl City.
One thing is that HA needs to get empower at all first class seats so that I can keep the details flowing for this mediocre report. HA HA HA...
One of the nice things about traveling alone is that you sometimes you are blessed with having an excellent seat mate! YEAH!
This gentleman's name is Joe, from San Jose, what a gem of a man...kind soul jus like my father...schucks, I really lucked out.
I know my thoughts are scattered right now, but I wanted to let you all know that I have the HA 1st menu with me, so I will transcribe it or scan it for all to read later. It is yummy licious though.
Kim, our FA up front just asked me for my meal choice, I chose the crab cakes...@ 937am, this will do my stomach really good, as I only had decaf before heading out to SFO.
Side note, even though I am an avid FT trip report reader and co-moderator, my ADHD has my brain all over the place, hence the multitude of thougths all over the creation.
Let me say this, the FA's are STELLAR on HA. Jim, our purser is overly attentive. Believe it or not, I feel as though this is an International flight with this type of "domestic first class" service.
I just saw the woman in seat 2A served a refill of water from a "silver pitcher"...YES, that's style.
What next? Hmmmm
I am on bloody mary #2 right now. So...I drink when on holiday,,,,,so what....LOL ...LOL http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
OK folks ....I need a poddy break now, so I'll finish this in a bit, or maybe an hour.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
I am BACK. Seems like it was over an hour and it probably was...I got caught up in the Pirates of the Carribean movie...OK is all that is is, now really my taste, but what the heck, I gave it a shot...
It's about 1144am SFO time and we are about 2 hours out of HNL. We've got some good winds helping us today.
I really need to recommend that all my FT family try HA, whether it is in 1st or Y -it is all truly good and filled with the Aloha Spirit throughout the whole aircraft...hands down winnner in my opinion.
The FA's are constantly pacing the aisles to see if anyone needs even the slightest anything...Kim just stopped by to refill my champagne glass...it's as if they are psychic and can read our minds. Complete A+ service, bar none. HOOORAH..;-)
Going back to the gate 40 situation...I did not get the registration number from this flight, so m apologies. I saw it on the back of the plane but it was too crowded for me to get a good look at it.
Sorry folks...:-(
Tonight , for an early supper, my parents are taking me to my favorite Korean BBQ hole in the wall place...YUMMY...all kinds of Kim Chee & Chicken Katsu.. AWESOME...as we say in Hawai'i..."ONO".
Well, what the heck am I leaving out of this report that I know I should be adding???????
Even though I do travel about 4 trips a year. I feel quite junior in my Trip Report writing abilities. Go fugure that one out for Ripley's. BIG >>>>>>>LOL.
Before I forget... Allow me to transcribe the AM menu from SFO-HNL :
Hawaiian Airlines is pleased to offer the following selections chosen by Chef Beverly Gannon of Hali'imaile General Store and Joe's Bar & Grill on Maui.
To Begin -
Warm Long John with Fresh Fruit Compote
Entrees -
Herb Scrambled Eggs with Vegetable Wellington and Hollandaise
Or
Cornbread stuffed Chicken Breast with Summer Succotash and Baby Carrots
Or
Crabcakes with Wasabi Cream Sauce, Asparagus, and Furikake Rice
And After All
Peach Crisp with Whipped Cream
Well? What do you think.....yummy?
One phrase of wisdom...NO MORE SPARKLING WINE...
Also, a wine headache is not a pretty thing in any place here on this beautiful planet...LOL.
I am going back to SFO in Y class on my return so that I can avoid at all costs the dreadful possibility of a hangover. Gee, why is it that when you get to be past 35 years old that we process alcohol differently? LMAO...
Funny thing about being in Hawai'i - it's all about the over indulgence of sugars and carbohydrates. My gut is going to hate me next week.
Ok, so I've side tracked from my trip report...sorry FT.
Overall, I highly recommend taking HA into HNL or any of the other islands...definitely a sure bet for the true Aloha experience. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Travel Journal Date - Sunday, the 26th of October, 2003 -
I had the most exhilirating time back on Honolulu, my homeland...
One of the highlights other than the fabulous 44th anniversary party of my parents, was the 9 hour deep-sea fishing expedition that I was on yesterday.
My 1st cousins have a new fishing boat and we sailed out of Heeia State Park off of Kaneohe Bay -Windward side of O'ahu...
Hawai'i no ka oi...
Well, I am now on my return journey back to San Francisco...
I scored the $250 ug to front again this time...This 767-300 was an OLDER version and I think may have been leased from a French or German company. Why do I think so? Because the signage was in both French, German and English. Hmmmm -little things that may you go Hmmmm...LOL
Anythewho -
I will transcribe the ONO-licious menu later upon arrival @ SFO, I am once again to exhausted to type after 3 pre-departure bubblies and 2 glasses of dinner wine...who knew? HUGE LOL!
Albeit the old aircraft, the Fas truly know how to provide 1st class service, again albeit "domestic".
Before I forget to add my 6 degrees of seperation moment, I have added my calabash uncle - Walter Dodds to my traveling seat mates journal. We shared a great flight back to SFO talking about old family members...love that stuff.
I cannot find my HNL-SFO menu, but will dig it up and post it later. I know the dinner I had was this mixed plate lunch thing complete with the famous mac/potato salad. Truly local style...ONO licious. HE HE HE.
The one real problem that HA's 767-300s suffer was the flight I came back on.
I must have been through the wringer in Europe somewhere. The plane was far from the NEW 767s that they are using.
Oh well, at least I got from point A to point B SAFELY... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Thanks for reading my random and simple report.
Mahalo nui loa.
