A Quick Trip to HSV
Had a meeting in Huntsville last week, had to fly down for the day. I of course booked my Y-fare ticket on Northwest due to the fact they appreciate when I fly on both high and low fares and reward me accordingly, the new promo, and the fact I get the automatic upgrade to first at booking.
Got to the airport on the Metro from the office, had a quick check-in at the kiosk. Although I was on a Y-Fare and there was no meal served on the plane for a 2+ hr flight, I got no coupon for a meal or access to the WorldClub. Dropped by the Club to see my Angel and wish her a happy belated birthday. Down to the gate, noticing the new construction on the concourse. I'm guessing a new security check-point, so they can
go to 3-lanes vs. the current 2.
10/29/03 DCA-MEM Flight #1897 Ship 3163 Seat 2C
Noticed the plane was on of the new livery. The 744 I flew last month to KIX and the 757 to TPE were both in new colors. Boarded with the FC call, jacket hung and pre-departs served. Door closed early with push-back right on time. A slight delay getting out, take off to the north with the quick right hand turn over the Pentagon. Drinks served from the cart, only the nasty glazed walnuts and spintzels. Did you notice that
the spintzels are now in an "enhanced" smaller bag. You only get 1/4 of an ounce! None of the other snack mix available http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif Uneventful trip, slight turbulence... did get to see the cockpit access codes TWICE! once by the pilot and another by the FA taking food into the cockpit. I've written to Northwest concerning this problem in the past, but they blew me off.... so much for hardened cockpit doors if you can sit in the right seat and see the code!
10/29/03 MEM-HSV Flight #5982 Ship 8688 Seat 3B
Boarded with the Elites, as it was a CRJ, no predeparts. Full flight, drinks served, no can offered and no spintzels. Quiet 32 min flight compared to the SABB noise. Off to the Hampton Inn.
10/30/03 Meetings at Huntsville Army Depot
10/31/03 HSV-MEM flight #5704 Ship 444 Seat 1C
Quick check-in at the FC line, bag screening with the sniffer as it's a smaller airport w/o the catscan machine. Colleague in the AA line has a 35 minute wait to get his ticket and almost misses his flight. HSV magnometer is set VERY high, more than at DCA and I have to go through secondary screening. Get the wand, but no beeps, down to the gate, wait for boarding and get on. Enjoy my 1C with the full legroom and no one beside me! Quick 45 min flight to MEM, on the landing, pass the FED-EX facility and see where all the D-10's have retired to. There must have been 30-40 of them at MEM!
Was handing out Halloween candy to the gate agents, FA's, Desk ladies in the club, etc. Just my way to show how much I appreciate the work they do... and put a smile on everyone’s face.
10/31/03 MEM-DCA flight #955 Ship 3268 Seat 2C
Gave out my Halloween treat to the FA's as I boarded, pre-depart served. Door closed on schedule, but was surprised there were 4 seats in FC open. Drinks were served with the nasty walnuts and spintzels before lunch. The choice for lunch was a turkey sandwich or antipasto salad... I took the sandwich, which was a very generous portion, chocolate cake served for dessert. This time, saw the cockpit access codes THREE times! Mesaba pilot/non-rev in FC, sounded like he came in from DEN. Was 2-3 min late getting to DCA, but no problem. Stopped by the Club on the way back to the office to drop off a little something for
my Angel. Take care of them and they will take care of you!!
