We decided to take I-405, instead of I-90, and we arrived at the ticket counter at 8:45. The Firstclass/Medallion line was a little backed up. With only 1 agent running the premium line, the wait was 15 minutes. It appeared that the customers she was helping had some type of problem. By the way, for those of you who are wondering, I tried using the delta kiosk by sliding my NW gold card, and it didn't work. The friendly Delta agent waived me over, and asked for my name. She found the reservation and quickly printed my BP's. I was unhappy to find "SSSS" printed in the right hand corner. I said good-bye to my sister's friend, and thanked her for driving me.

I made my way to the B concourse checkpoint, and showed my boarding pass with the SSSS. The TSA agent showed me to a "special line". The guy in front of me was a little out of it; he reeked of cigarette smoke, and had 3 coats on him. The TSA had fun with him http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif . After he finally went through the metal detector, it was my turn. I didn’t go off, but since I was in the “special line” I was subjected to the wand down and baggage search. After the TSA guy had wanded me down, and messed up all of my neatly packed clothes, I was off to gate B3.

It was now 9:15, so I called up a friend of mine to waste some time. At about 9:40, boarding began starting with First-Class. I showed the agent my BP, and I made my way down the jet way to the boarding door. I noticed that on the 767’s there is no middle door to board through on Delta planes. Is this standard for the 767? Anyway, as I reached the boarding door I looked down at my ticket stub, just double check where I was sitting. The FA looked at me and said in a sarcastic voice, “Are you lost already?” I smiled. I found my seat 1E, and placed my carry-on in the overhead. The overhead space is pretty tight on DL, and it barely fit. On NW and CO I can get it in without any problems. I noticed that little bottles of Dasani water (not delta water) were placed on the armrests of each F seat. After settling in, the same FA who had made that joke came around and took our pre-departure drink orders. I declined a beverage, and drank the bottle of Dasani. I like these water bottles at the seats, more airlines should adopt this. A few minutes later a female FA came around and asked if I would like a snack plate after take-off. I accepted, and asked for a coke. Boarding was completed, and we push backed on time at 10:10. We were number 2 for take-off, right behind a Horizon Dash 8.

I felt the power of the 767, as we took off into the dark sky. As we climbed, a preview of the movie, Daddy Day Care was shown. I don’t really like how there is 1 big projector screen in the middle of the cabin. It’s distracting for the customers in front of it, and hard for the customers in the back to see. It’s especially hard if you’re sitting in coach in the back (which I’ve done on DL some time ago). I doubt this is on Delta’s “to do” list, but they should install small screens throughout the cabins like on Continental.

After reaching our cruising altitude, the snack plate was placed in front of me. It consisted of a shell noodle salad with feta cheese, a breast of chicken, some Swiss cheese, bread sticks, and a packaged brownie for dessert. At this time the movie was played. The snack plate wasn’t too impressive for the length of the flight, but was better than nothing. I could surely get something in ATL anyway. The noodle salad was delicious, as was the chicken. That was pretty much all I ate from it, and when my tray was cleared away, I asked for a glass of milk. I forgot what these brownies are called that Delta uses, but there really moist the way I like it. After I was finished with my “dessert course” I reclined my seat to get some shuteye before our early arrival in ATL.

Even though the DL seats show their age, they are very comfortable.. I think I’ve become a fan of these seats.

The staff on this flight did a very good job. They were friendly, and very attentive. I also liked the jokes that the FA made during boarding. Even if Leo has made some really terrible changes Delta, the staff still deserves credit.

We began our descent into ATL at 5:15 am, and touched down at 5:45 am and taxied into gate T3. I deplaned and I passed my departure gate, and was surprised to see an agent already there for the FLL flight that didn’t leave till 8:34 am. I decided I would grab some breakfast. After searching around the T terminal, I didn’t find much, except for a burger king. So I decided since I had so much time, I would go over to the A terminal to see if I could find anything. Nothing really of interest, except for one of those tasty looking cinnamon rolls at the Wall Street Deli. Let me tell you something, they looked a lot better than they taste. It wasn’t anything special, but I ate it anyway. I was still hungry so I went back to the T terminal again to have some burger king. By this time it was 7:15, and I began the walk over to the gate of my flight to FLL, T3. I wasted my remaining time by watching the news on the hurricane that was moving in on the Carolina coast. I also observed the stand-by screens that I’ve heard about that DL uses at their gates. I think these are helpful, but certainly not something airlines need to install. I also noticed that the same agent from 6:00 am was still at the gate. Why does DL have agents stay at the gate so long?

Delta Airlines 1192 ATL-FLL
Departure: 8:34 am (on-time)
Arrival: 10:23 am (on-time)
Aircraft: 767-300 (domestic version with new colors)
Seat: 1A
Meal: None
Gate in ATL: T5
Gate in FLL: Unknown

I boarded, and was welcomed by a smiling flight attendant. I found seat 1A, and was quickly offered a pre-departure beverage. My seatmate began a conversation with me at this time. It turned out he was an accountant for some big company in ATL. He was going to FLL to visit a client for the day. He also recommended a book called The Mental Game of Baseball. If anyone is interested in baseball I recommend picking this one up. We also chatted a little bit about the changes that Leo Mullin has made. He said he now goes out of his way to fly AirTran, and tells all his friends to do so also. He said the only reason he was flying on DL today was that they had the most convenient schedule for him.

After take-off the FA came around and addressed me by name (very impressive). She asked what I wanted to drink this morning. I chose an Orange Juice, and it was promptly brought out with a snack mix. I drank the juice, but the snack mix just didn’t seem right for the time of the morning. I reclined the comfy DL seat and fell asleep since I was so tired. The staff was nice from what I could tell, but I obviously didn’t need to much.

When I awoke we were already on final approach. We touched down moments later, and taxied in the DL terminal.

I wasn’t to impressed with DL, but the seat was nice. Surely a bowl of fruit can be served from ATL-FLL in F? I’m still angry at what Leo has done to the airline as far as all the skymiles program changes go. For those of you who keep track of that stuff, it’s now rubbing off on Continental, which makes me even madder. Personally, I wouldn’t give money to DL because of Leo, but that’s just my personal opinion.

Welcome to FlyerTalk. Enjoyed reading your report - it was great detail.

If I could mention one thing though. In the future, you might want to do a quick manual proofread. I noticed on several occasions you had typed "to" when I am sure you meant "too". Not a huge deal - just thought you would want to know for next time.

Great content.

P.S. - I agree. Why ANYONE is still flying DL or CO is just beyond me.

NWplatinum, my favorite place to eat at ATL is Popeye's in the Concourse B food court, followed by coffee from Seattle's Best next door. In the morning Popeye's serves various combinations of biscuit and egg/sausage/etc., and for lunch and dinner the obvious chicken. Their corn on the cob is delicious. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

That Burger King in concourse T sucks big time. One time I ordered a hamburger, and it was as bad as McDonald's but without the addictive McDonald's taste. Yuck! Now, every time I go through ATL, I head straight for Concourse B.

There are several other choices in the concourse B food court if you don't like Popeye's.

Regarding the video screens on the 767, that's an older version. The newer versions have actual TV screens.

I'm pretty sure Continental ordered their planes with TV screens from the factory. I've never heard of an airline reinstalling a video system on an airplane. It's just not that important.

Why do I fly Delta? For the same reasons you enjoyed your flight (albeit without much food) -- the friendliest staff of any airline (IMHO). That plus ATL, CVG and SLC are decent places to change planes (also IMHO).

Under the new SkyMiles program, I am a level lower because I only buy cheap fares. Yes, that sucks, but it doesn't suck as hard as flying other airlines.

The only real thing CO has going for it, and it may be a big thing, is perhaps the best domestic F in terms of food/beverage. I am a US flyer, and they now have plastic cups except for transcons. Perhaps CO has made the least cuts across the industry in F class meals?
