Not time right now for a full report, but a mix-up at check-in meant that we ended up with one of the 'grand suites' normally reserved purely for casino comps. The service has been absolutely fantastic, and we're looking forward to trying the Whiskey Bar this evening.

If the Strip isn't your scene, I would highly recommend this hotel. We particularly like the fact that the gaming machines are located a long way from the main hotel.

Be warned, however, that there is an outdoor disco every Friday night until 11pm which is very loud. Not normally a problem when you're in Las Vegas, but fighting jet-lag meant that we were ready for bed by 10pm.

Also enjoyed reading your report on your bmi flight across the pond. Sounds like you had a great flight. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif

Enjoyable report. I should point out the following about MAN since I seem to almost live there these days.

Terminal 1 (where BD flights depart) is mainly charter with some scheduled services (BD LH)

The same is true for Terminal 2, but this is even more charter orientated.

Terminal 3, with BA and other OWA is the 'business' oriented terminal being scheduled airlines only.

I agree that T1/T2 do have the charter feel to them, but sometimes I find this a welcome break (more smiley faces) from the stuffiness of T3.

But a nice airport anyway.

Thanx for the nice pictures!

I just have been at the GVR in June also. As we were on a prepaid roomrate we only got a standard room above the main-entrance of the hotel. But the room was still nice enough and not so much different from your pics, just the layout was changed a bit (closet / entrance to bathroom; little bit smaller and only a sofa-chair).

The buffet was quite good and the casino entraped me to play quite a lot (but I don't like those ticket-play machines...).

I really liked the GVR but IMO for the location it's too expensive. That may change next year when it's not one of the hot new spots anymore... Did I mention location? It's really far out...

I disagree. For the dates we were there, standard rooms were $99, which I thought represented great value for a hotel which is essentially a 5* hotel, and in my opinion, as nice as anything on the Strip. In terms of being 'far' from the Strip, distance is all relative. To your European sensibilities, 10 miles from downtown Las Vegas may seem like a long way, but the truth is that it only takes ten minutes to make the journey on the highway. Rental cars are dirt cheap in Vegas (ours was $16.99 per day with Avis for a midsize) and parking is free everywhere.

We chose the hotel because it *wasn't* on the Strip. And honestly, we couldn't really find many excuses to leave the hotel. There's good gaming, good dining, two great bars (Whiskey and Whiskey Beach), and a great pool to hang out by. Staying at the GVR is NOT the typical Vegas experience, and I think is richer for it.

If I returned to Vegas, I would return to this property in a heartbeat.
