Well, trip report number one from a long time lurker. Usually this trip is fairly routine...but this one had some pleasant surprises...at least for me :-)

9 July 2003
ANC-JNU
AS 74 - B734
1951-2127
1A

Takeoff on runway 6L due to 14/32 runway closure for a total makeover. A little different routing than I am used to as we remained inland for the entire trip. Passed just south of Valdez-inland along the coast-directly over Yakutat-north of Mt. Fairweather and straight into JNU. Even the Captain noted the 'clear weather' routing with a straight-in approach to JNU. Perfectly clear weather the entire flight, except for the ever present sea stratus this time of year. Nothing to block the spectacular scenery though. Flights like these remind me of why I live up here.

Service was typical for a short evening flight, althought it was the first time I had the two mounds of cheese spread (one cheddar and one herb?) instead of the cheese slices for the cheese and grape plate. Spreads were kind of dry and crumbly...tasted OK though. Need more crackers with this.

Approach into JNU did not have the usual weird right turn on final. We went over the small mountain and dropped in. Quite fun actually!

11 July 2003
JNU-ANC
AS 67 - B734
2011-2150
1F

What a pleasant surprise upon getting to the gate and seeing the Disneyland plane for this flight :-) Not much to say route-wise going back as it was the normal coast hugging route...with a few more clouds. The cheese and grapes were the normal variety...however the f/a on this run gave us individual trays covered with a paper towel that had two bottles of booze, mixer, cheese plate and 2 packages of nuts. A little different, but a nice touch IMHO.

A little bumpy into ANC onto 6R. I went to baggage claim with my friend to pick up her luggage and what a ZOO!! AA just dumped a 757, along with 2 AS flights onto one carousel. We both said 'Welcome to Anchorage <sigh>'.

Nice report! ANC-JNU is certainly a beautiful route (when the skies are clear).

Always been a mystery to me why some "non-meal" AS flights receive that cheese/cracker plate and some don't.
