I arrived at the continental ticket counter at 5:15 am. I was surprised to see the ticket counter so crowded, but luckily the first/elite line was empty. I was waved over without a wait. The agent did not smile, and she asked where I was going. I told her iah then to jfk and handed her my printed out itinerary from home. She didnt seem to know what she was doing because my reservation was booked on a codeshare with NW, and she was confused as to how the computer was suppose to handle it. She had to make a few phone calls, and after waiting 15 minutes, bp's were issued and I was off for security. I used the first/elite security line and I was at the gate by 5:50 am. Boarding was a little late, and did not start till 6:10.
Some group was on this flight, and when the boarding announcement was made, they asked them to come forward and board before everyone else. Then they asked elite members and first class to come forward. I found my seat 1A, and settled in. drinks were offered, and I chose a seltzer water. Seat 1A is my favorite. It is the bulkhead, and it has a cutout, allowing extra room for your feet. It appeared that first class was empty, and only the first 2 rows were occupied. But just before the doors closed, it seemed like they upgraded alot of passengers, including one Unaccompanied Minor behind me. He was very loud, and was kicking my seat for part of the way. I really don't think that they should do things like that, since it disturbs other customers. First class was almost full, with 1 empty seat next to me. Taxi was quick, and we were in the air in no time.
After we reached our cruising altitude, the FA (with a very squeaky voice i might add) offered breakfast. She described it as a croissant with egg and ham. It was early, so I was very hungry and wanted breakfast badly. I selected a seltzer to accompany my entree.
Hot towels were handed out, followed by trays with the meals. The meal came with the croissant, a fruit plate, and a hot cinnamon roll. I devoured the meal happily, and my tray was cleared away. The meal was very delicious, and quite appropriate for the length of the flight.
The staff was also very attentive, topping off drinks and so forth. After the meal, I read my book, from worst to first by gordo. Some (including NJdavid) might think i'm nuts, but I think Gordon Bethune is a very smart guy. His ideas in the book make perfect sense, and he has a great way of expressing things through examples.
We arrived early into Houston at 8:10 am. My connecting flight to jfk would not depart until 10:40 am.
I decided I would take a look around iah, which I have never done. I visited the new E terminal, and found it very nice. It reminded me of ewr for some reason. I also noticed that they had alot of flight to Mexico, any specific reason? The food court seemed nice, which expands the food selection at iah. Once I was done in E, I decided I would go check out B. I took the tram out to the NW gates, and looked at the A319's, including one with a new paint job, I'm going to miss the old one. After this, I got a quick bite, and then started to head over to gate D-6 for my connection to Kennedy.

leave: 10:40 am arrive: 3:22 pm
737-500 seat: 2E
Boarding started promptly at 10:10 am with first/elite. I stepped forward, actually, I was the only one that stepped forward. This flight was very empty, and it appeared that I was the only one in first this morning. I boarded alone, and found my seat 2E. I was then offered a drink, and chose coke. 2 other passengers came, so it looked like I wouldn't be alone. I had never been on a CO flight before with such an empty F cabin. Out of 10 seats, 3 were occupied. Again, I had the whole row to myself.
After boardin, which was quick, we taxied out for departure. The captain came on to apologize and say that there was heavy traffic in iah, and that we wouldn't be taking off for another 15-20 minutes. We waited and waited and waited, and finally it was our turn. After take off, the FA came around and asked if we wanted something to drink, I chose another coke. She brought out our drinks with cashew nuts. She then asked if we wanted a chicken sandwich, or salad with salmon, I chose the sandwich. It was presented to me on a tray with potato salad, a pickle, and an almond delight for dessert.
The sandwich had zucchini and carrots. I took out the carrot, and used some of the tangy mustard. The food was pretty good, including the potato salad. I wish they would have served some kind of cake or something.
After the meal was finished, and everyone's tray was cleared, the FA came over to me and started a conversation. She said she saw my book, "From Worst to First", and wanted to know if I like it. Turned out she had worked when Frank Lorenzo was in charge, and said she had been on strike for 2 years. She was grateful for Gordon saving the airline. She also said that she thought Gordon Bethune had a big mouth, and that it would get him in trouble some day. I agreed, with a smile on my face. The crew did a very good job, but with such few passengers, I don't think they could have done a bad job.
After that nice chat, she went into the galley, and I fell asleep.
I awoke to descent and we landed a little early and I was inside by 3:20. Good flight with CO, and will be sharing my return with 2 stops on the way back. I hope that goes well.
