I was bored on my flight my FRA to JFK today so I wrote a short trip report...
Don´t expect too much as this is my first report and not very detailed...
Hotel Volna Nizhniy Novgorod
We stayed at this property for 3 nights this month and I was quite curious before arriving in the cold city of Novgorod. We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon and flew back on Friday with LH. It seems that there is a very high rate of no shows to GOJ as the seatmap showed 12 rows of C the day before and nearly all seats were taken but on the flight we were just 14 people in C. The same for the flight back to FRA. Many rows on the seatmap but only 12 persons in C. In Y about 30-40 persons. But I guess that LH still makes a lot of money on the flights as the fares are very high. C was more than 2000 Euros each and Y is also not very cheap.
Flight time was about 3.15 hours. The A 319 was configured in the typical 2-3 seating and the service was quite nice with a hot meal and a snack before landing.
After arrival where were met by our partner in Russia and he took us to Hotel Volna which is the only “Western standard” hotel in Novgorod. It has 4 stars in European standard. It is situated in the automobile district on the main road from the airport to the city center..There are also some Best Eastern hotels in Novgorod , the chain is really called so. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
It has 4 stars in European standard.
We had an executive suite for 370 Euro per night. Other rooms start from about 200 Euros but these rooms are “shoeboxes”
The rooms are equipped with TV(CNN),PayTV,Minibar etc. AND a SOS alarm bell J I didn´t feel really safe after reading about this feature. Our room had an extra living room and two bathrooms+ individual air condition but there was no need to cold the air…
There is also a very small fitness center and a sauna.
The hotel brochure said that the hotel was renovated in 1996 but only the inside as it still has this Russian “charme” from the outside.
There are two restaurants in the hotel called Chaika and Burlack as well as two bars. We were told that the Chaika restaurant is the best one in town and is quite expensive. And the food was really good as well as the vodka…
The airport is still old Russian style without a lounge or any other interesting thing.
The flight back was also very nice but nothing special…
