My first mileage run... sort of....
My university offers a full week off for fall break http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Decided to head home for break to see family.
On UA and UX I had the option of:
TUL-DEN-MLI-DEN-TUL
or [all on UX http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif ]
TUL-ORD-MLI-ORD-TUL
but since I felt the spirit of "FT" I decided to work my mileage run mojo:
TUL-DEN-ORD-MLI-ORD-DEN-TUL
Killing 2 birds with one stone- not bad.
[Mileage Run + Fall Break]
United 1537
TUL-DEN
In E- Cabin 737-500 [though no E+ existed on this aircraft ---This aircraft was Sh*ttle aircraft] They had a "snack" onboard that consisted of a preservative-laden somewhat tolerable danish, and I washed it down with a glass of LaCroix sparkling water. Short flight: 1h 20min--- the approx. same flight length of TUL-ORD aboard a CRJ. Much more roomy than one of those CRJ's!
United 262
DEN-ORD
In E- cabin even though this aircraft had an E+ section.
Prior to departure from DEN, I noticed a lone UAL 727 parked next to a United hanger.
My first time aboard a Boeing 777. This is one heck of a nice aircraft! Also the first time that I had an alcoholic drink onboard an aircraft. [For those inquiring minds, it was Kahlua]
Oh and about the Silca gel--- yeah... it happened to be the last ingrediant listed in "Summer Mix" served to us in coach. [not to be confused with UAL's "Savory Mix" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif ]
Quite disturbed finding this ingrediant, as I remembered having new coats and other new clothing articles that contain Silca Gel packets with Big and Bold letters stating: "SILCA GEL--- DO NOT EAT" Thus, I did not eat the "Summer Mix".
Window seat row "A" with no-one in row "B" [thank God!] Channel 9 worked fine, but United's "Pop 40" channel was not working. But, hey there's no charge for in-flight entertainment on UAL, so that really leaves no room for me to complain.
Upon arrival @ the B concourse @ ORD, I noticed what appeared to be the "Star Alliance Aircraft" with multi-Star Airline schemes on what appeared to be a B 757.
United Express 7403
ORD-MLI
In a UX first suite on this one--- riiiiiiiight. Lets face it, by the time UX even has a first class, WN will possibly introduce LAX-OGG.
Despite getting off the ground late due to not having a tow, I was somewhat impressed about this flight. I've flown this segment about 3 times in the past year. due to the relative shortness of the flight, drinks are usually not offered. This was the first time that drinks were offered.
One sour note. When I arrived in Moline at about 6:15PM my checked bag did not arrive. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
So I filled out the claim form and was told by the ACA/UX employee that they would call once the bag arrived. I was wicked hungry so I went to dinner thereafter. After retruning home at about 9PM I checked the answering machine and found a message stating that my bag would arrive at the airport about 10PM. They said it would take about 1-4 hours for them to deliever the bag to my house.
I played phone tag by calling the number listed on my lost baggage claim form and only got voicemail [I left a message for a 'specific employee' -- option #2] Since I had been up at about 4AM CST, I told MLI UAX station that I would like them to call before 11PM, otherwise deliever my bag to my house Sunday morning after 11AM.
Aparently my bag arrived somewhere between 9AM and 11AM the next morning [Sunday], as I was sound asleep; my dad said that he heard a "ka-thud" sound and the sound of a vehicle pulling away from my house at about 10AM.
Do you think I should ask for additional compensation for having lost my bag and enduring further delay getting the luggage? If so, should I contact UAL or UAX? [ACA} What medium should I use? [I do have the MLI station phone number with the voicemail of the station manage]
The return trip MLI-ORD-DEN-TUL will be continued sometime during the week of October 21st.
