Trip Reports - YYC - FRA (I will never fly Air Canada again)

Well now having flown AC, i doubt I will ever fly them again. I'm sorry if i've offended anyone in here but I found the quality of the product offered by AC extremley poor compared to international competitors. It's sad but what AC are doing kinda reminds me to QF in Australia, because of their strength they feel they can do things a little bit worse than others.

Here are my comments:

1. Biz class - yes i was an economy class pax, but they had plenty of biz class seats on the flight which went empty. They gladly took up a lady who obviously was in Y class up there but refused plenty of *A golds comp or up grades despite Y class being completely full.

2. Aircraft - old 767 aircraft which was well worn. This is the first international flight i've been on for this length where even the headrests don't let you curve them around. The seat was hard like there was a steel plank with a sheet over it. The leg room was poor, despite being in 12A the bulk head. The controls on the armrest were worn and torn and could not be read. The bathroom didn't even have basic necesscities - like a paper cup to gargle with on a night flight. In flight entertainment - beside from not having a TV for the seat (that's fine i can live with that) the entertainment was poor too... the worst music, limited choice, 1 movie, about a boy then an old 007 movie.... ah yes.....

3. Food - now this is a story unto itself. I took photos of the food, the stewardess felt almost embarrassed i was taking photos. I said, there is actually a website... airlinemeals.net... she said yes yes i know it. We had a choice of chicken or salmon, both were horrible. And they had some beans... as salad. The bun was a rock (could be used as a weapon on the plane), the desert was a dry piece of cake. I will post pictures up upon my return to AU. The worst thing though, this is a 9 hr flight, it took them 3.5 hrs into the flight to bring the meal out. A 1 hr wait from bringing out the napkins to dry your hands to get the food. And I was the first person in Y class to get a meal.. pity those guys at the back with a 4+ hour wait before their meal came. This left me all of say 4 hours to sleep before arriving in FRA. Thankfully the person sitting next to me let me put my tray on his, and i went off to bed after brushing my teeth. Please be aware the plane left at 6pm. Remembering many pax checked in 2 hrs prior for an international flight... that makes it 4pm... many of us may not have had a chance to eat (such as myself who was on a connecting flight from YEG). Anyhow, if you allow 3.5 hours from take off... that makes it around 9:30pm before a meal was served... (most pax probably didn't receive their meal till after 10pm). The meal tray which u pull out to put your meal on... was also bent... so much so it was at a 45 degree slope (the second flap) so i had to wrestle the meal on one flap.

4. Checkin Staff - AC checkin staff... well that's a story unto itself. I've written down his tag number but he was the most rude *A staff person i have ever dealt with. I had carry on which weighed 23.5 lbs... he said the legal is 22 lbs... i said... oh... so what would u like me to do? he said check it in... i said but i want to carry on... anyhow, ends up he made me unlock the bag, i had to find something i didn't want, had to walk over to a rubbish bin with my bag open at the checkin table came back and he asked me to move to the side to serve someone else while i resealed my carry on. I did and then he made me wait for 15 minutes before waiting for the lady next to me to serve me who really didn't want to serve me, even though i was in the *A gold queue... she ushered a standard Y class pax and i said isn't this the *A gold queue... anyhow... ends up they caused me to miss my connected flight from YEG to YYC and i had to wait another 45 mins for the next flight.

All in all, I have had the worst experience with AC and will NEVER fly them again if I have a choice. I can't understand how they can treat pax so poorly and the standard of their product is so inferior.

Wow, very interesting story. I flew AC to Montreal once, and I don't remember it being memorable for any reason. Thanks for the trip report, glad to hear you are sending the pix to airlinemeals.net :-)

I'm confused:

AC should have given out upgrades because:

You can't say that I didn't warn you! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Glad that you made it to FRA in one piece.

I don't think, it would be 'good economic advice' to airlines, giving free/complimentary upgrades, unless eco is overbooked.

Free upgrades would let many otherwise business-paying costumer speculate and boook eco.

Have to agree some of those old AC 767 are real beaters inside. I always try to fly the A330 on transatlantics although you didn't really have a choice from YYC. They used to use A340s on that run but they seem to have disappeared from the transatlantic runs.
