Well, it seemed like a nightmare to me. I took the NJ Transit train from Penn Stn. to the EWR airport. Penn was nuts! I could barely squeeze through the masses. Finally bought a ticket and made it to the train (with <1 min to spare). Nowhere to sit on the train.

When we arrived at the SkyTrain station at EWR I was pleasantly surprised to find that Continental had a check in available. I decided to do that. 20 minutes later I was still waiting even though there was noone ahead of me in line. To make a long story short, they tested the bag I was checking and the computer spit out:

EXPLOSIVES DETECTED

So they did it again. And got the same result. They called the Port Authority and proceeded to go through everything in the bag. All in all it took almost an hour. When I finally got to security at the airport there was no line. But there was a problem. I was carrying a coffee grinder with me. Not allowed.

Good thing I arrived 2 hours early because when I got to my gate it was final call.

The flight was PACKED. All in all an awful day of travel.

Your report title sez EWR-SAN... so far, all you've written about is getting to Newark and the scene once there. That may be a first as I don't believe anyone has ever totally dedicated a post to Newark yet, its urban revival notwithstanding...

So, what about it? What happened between Newark and San Diego?! How long wuz the flight? What was fer dinner? Any turbulence? And what about your seat "opponent"? What runway did you land on? What was the temperature in San Diego? Are the Chargers really gonna fire Mike Reilly after this season? Enquiring minds want to know...

The flight was jam packed. Sat in 6B. Everyone around me was sneezing & coughing. Movie was "She's the one" but I didn't spring the $2 for the headset. Read a few magazines, practiced the phonetic alphabet, and stared at the ceiling.

It really was quite an uncomfortable and unpleasant flight. Very cramped and too hot. Meal was a chicken of some kind. I'd give it a 5 out of 10. Total flying time 5.5 hours (less than 4.5 SAN-EWR). A weekend in NY doesn't make much sense to me anymore.

I'm guessing that we landed on runway 27 or whatever is closest to that. We were definitely headed west.

Anything else of interest? I've never posted in this forum before.

Hey! Right On, emaij!!!

That was great! Except for your flight, that is... Hope your next one was better.

OK, thanks to you, I've got my Trip Report fix for the day satiated! Now I can go out and drink more beer and cruise for babes if I can get my truck started.

Hey! Wait a minute! What about Mike Reilly's future with the Chargers?

P.S. Welcome to FT! Here's wishing you friendlier skies in the New Year! Happy contrails!
