Original flights in and out of DCA.
9/28 BWI to SFO #71 - A321(Stop in PIT).
Check-in was quick at 1st/Preferred - Very long lines at main check in, REAL LONG. I had my upgrade, my buddy Sean did not, stuck in coach until PIT, a whole 30 minutes - the agony. Security was only 10 minutes - then to Club - then to the plane. Crowded flight. Had to wait 30 odd minutes past departure for pax not thru check-in/security. Recognized several DC folks, all praying DCA re-opens soon. Many US pilots/FA's going up to PIT. Usual problem w/overhead space, for crying out loud I checked my bags w/no prob, what is with thinking a suitcase the size of a trunk is carryon? FA's made some pax check bags, ground staff should cover that, the FA's where swamped - plane was really packed. Crew handled it well but some of the pax did not. Where in the Constitution does it garruntee the right to carryon 50pds of luggage, thwack every seated pax as you ooze down the aisle, complain about everything, bully the FA's, all for a roundtrip ticket for $250? I must have missed that in Civics.
45 minutes in PIT - Sean almost in a fight w/dork who blocks aisle smooching his babe(golly, gotta do it here cause the hotel would be to private)then suddenly remembers his 2 ton suitcase 4 rows back, tries ramming thru the pax he has been blocking including this little old couple(5' max - matched set, classic) - dork is flustered by Seans lack of willingness to allow dork to achieve said ramming, ask's "Who raised you?" "Wolves" is the reply. End of that. Sean got his upgrade to SFO. Good, he stopped grousing.
Rest of flight was great - full in 1st, crew handled it like real pro's, quick and calm. Several heavy boozers, two fab redheads of undetermined age(keeping it together very well - kinda country western chic meets suburban flash w/cash, I am from PG County and I know) who could handle the drinks w/some fella thay met(NOT keeping it together, come on guys comb overs do not hide anything and that suit wouldn't burn it would melt) who was smashed and getting loud, FA's calmed him down very nicely. Another pax tossing back black russians like M&M's but w/no visible effect, caught her eye, she throws a look at Mr. Happy as if to say "Amateur" and orders another. At one point FA is coming down aisle w/red and white wine in hand, older couple from coach standing at bulkhead gave very sour look to the sinners in 1st. Forgive us our faults deliver us from coach. Good meal - salmon, salad, beef w/potatoes, then sundaes(passed). The crew really did a great job, thanked them both.
4 days in SF, Magnitude and Folsom Steet Festival - if you don't know you don't want to and if you do, enough said. Shocking, just shocking and I blame Sean completely. Would never go back, well maybe.
10/2 SFO to CLT #748 A321 - CLT to BWI #1171 A320.
Yes we could have taken a direct flight but it left at 7AM and I just can't do that. Both upgraded all the way. Easy check-in, again w/real nice staff - slightly flustered w/my upgrades(purchased&earned) and rerouted flights but we got thru it. Security seemed tighter than at BWI, checking tickets, ID, walk thru detector and hand held, some concern over Seans belt buckle and boots, that will learn 'em. Flight on time, 1st about 2/3rds full. Again several US pilots and FA's. Great service, great flight, good lunch - shrimp, salad, beef again w/great garlic mashed potatoes. Crew took orders by status. A first for me. Some movie about prisoners entering a garden show in England, really inspired me to read my in-flight mag.
At end of flight the head FA thanked each of the pax w/status individually. again a first - thanked him for a great flight. Quick connection in CLT to BWI, calm and quiet flight.
I really love US Airways.
