Hy folks, a short trip and not much to report except the overall feeling.
Checked car at Park N Ride. I was the only one on the bus to DFW. That has never happened before.
Went through the security check. Not much of a ling but it was 8:30 Sat morning so that may have had a little bit to do with it.
Took everything out of my pocket.glasses, cell phone, pen walked through..beeper went off.
Found car keys - a samll ring. two keys on it. Went through second detector. Another beep.
The lady with the wand gave me the once over - another beep near top pocket. I have a packet of gun in there. That has never happened to me.
Armed guards -2 of them right there in the hallway.
Went to flight. Looked at the board. It seemed to me only about 25% of flights canceleld.
very few people in the airport. I passed the Skybox bar and wondered how these new rules will affect places like this since a large part of their customers are forced to stay on the other side of the metal detectors now. Only ticketed people waling the halls.
The plane - American Eagle only had about 15 people on board.
Nice flight.
When I got to Jackson MS went in the airport, there was hardly anyone there. Very weird.
I came here to visit with my parents. A ncie time. I go back Monday at noon. Looking forard to the atmosphere then.
One thing that struct me... was everyone was very nice. Polite.
I stopped to buy a Dallas Morning News. Even though there was only 3 people in the store I almost bumped into one. He stopped and backed up and said escuse me. A smile.
At the door ways, people letting others go first instead of barrelling through.
I had a nice little chat with Gate agent.
No one seemed nervous. All in all very pleasant.

The trip back ---
Today Monday 9-17.
The airport in Jackson Miss is small. No one in line. That was good since I got there at 11:55 for a 12:30 flight.
Went through the scanner again... again beeps. Everything out of my pocket.. still beeps.
Turns out it was the metal eyelets on my shoes. (I already took out the packet of GUM from my pocket.)
The guy doing the scanning was a gentleman of at least 70 years on the earth.
The were not many people in the gate area.

The flight was kind of bumpy. The plane had more people on it than the Sat flight out to Jackson, but still less than half full. OR over half empty depending on your outlook on that glass of water thing.

Since I neglected to cover the meal service on my initial report, allow me to do so now.
MEAL SERVICE

A deliteful combination of subtance and beverage. In my case a bag or pretzel - midly fresh with just a hint of saltiness - and a Dr. Pepper.
Refills were free, even.

Landed at DFW and took the mini-bus back to the terminal.

Went to the Park-N-Fly stop, I was the only one there.

I was the only one standing on the lower level waiting area.

Two pilots passed me draggin their wheelie bags. They were just in shirt, tie and those jaunty little hats they wear.

I was tempted to ask as they passed - "Didn't they tell you skycaps there was no work today?"

My mother's pounding of manners into my thick head caused the reluctant restraint.

Back to the lot, car started and home safe and sound.

Again, one thing I noticed everyone was very nice and polite. Now maybe being in the deep south where manners are mandatory is a part of it, but I also think the current situation is a factor.

Till next trip.
