UA was matching DL/Comair's "Welcome Back" promotion, so found a $190, all taxes included flight Greenville SC/IAD/LGA/ORD/GRR/ORD/Richmond, VA/IAD/GSP for Saturday the 7th.

Stayed Fri. nite and Sat. nite at the Courtyard in Greenville--quite new, looked like they had a wedding party in the house b/c there were cello-wrapped bundles of Jordan Almonds for the taking...

Drive up from ATL takes about 2 hrs. Traffic was going 85 mph!

Left GSP at 0650--10 people on the CRJ. Slightly sleepy service but OK. Gate agent confirmed that I'd been u/g from IAD to GRR.
Arrived IAD a few mins early. Over to main terminal to pick up timetables--the Ethiopian Airlines flight was checking in. Too busy to ask for any paraphernalia.

IAD-LGA on a 757--really good service. Pre-departure drinks and all. Arrived right on time.

LGA-ORD on a 727--we were about 45 mins late leaving, only 10 mins late arriving. 2/3 full in F, given a menu, salt shakers, cloth covered tray (but no cloth over the tray table, does this count)?? Choice of bbq chix breast or reuben sandwich.

ORD-GRR on 737--100% full, but that included 4 or 5 identifiable NRSAs. Pre-departure drinks (in foam cups--all he had). Good purser (older gentleman) who worked 1st. Only flew at 12K feet. Took off in rain.

GRR-ORD--completely new crew (!), unfortunately the agent took 2 u/g coupons (GRR-RIC is 570 miles...). Also 80% full. We flew at 15K feet, this time drinks were offered after takeoff.

ORD-RIC--737--we were next to a much delayed ORD-LAS flight, but we were maybe 75% full in back. Up front there were 3 of us, then suddenly a family of 4 took the 1st row. Strange combination--apparently husband and wife, with 2 grown daughters. I think the wife worked for UA (in Houston, I surmise). Unclear why they were traveling. No menu--choice of chicken fajita salad or chicken fondue (are they fondue crazy...). No meal in back.

RIC-IAD--my first trip on a J41. Much better than I'd anticipated (after disliking the J31s)--what happened to the wing spar in the middle of the cabin?

IAD-GSP--sat on the plane awhile after loading--not clear what the holdup was. Cheery f/a made it a pleasant plane. Only about 12 on the flight. Arrived right on time at 1120PM.
