The airport in Dubai is magnificient. I remember reading before either someone saying that it reminded them of HKG or that the same designers built it, but I do agree that it is of a very similar design. The main area is very open, and dominated by large plate windows. Everything is in both Arabic and English, so getting around was not a problem. Large palm trees line the main hallway, and it literally feels like you are outside in an oasis. It just happened to be an oasis with lots of planes and lots of advertisements for the local shopping areas. The BA lounge was quite nice. There is a great area that overlooks the gate area, and one can plane watch to their content. Like HKG, it is a very comfortable airport to wait in.

The plane back was the same one that we arrived on, but some of the problems had been taken care of. My seat had an inoperable video system, though I slept so I didn't care. Overall, the flight attendants were not quite as personal, but they were still excellent. Like the first flight, the cabin didn't have a lot of people in it. Rich slept the whole time, to the point that a flight attendant asked me what I had done to him. Apparently Dubai was just too much excitement... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Same wine list

Breakfast
Typical breakfast stuff
English breakfast foods
Smoked fish hash http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif

Appetisers
Smoked Salmon, crushed tomato, and roasted coriander seed salad
* Warm meze plate
Mixed salad

Main course
* Mixed grill
Arabic style poussin with sumac

Typical cheese selection

Dessert
Mixed berry tart

Since these two flights were basically the same flight with a different food option, I will rate them together and give them a B+. Food was good for BA, and the service was predictably excellent. The mechanical problems were disappointing, though, and the planes really need some servicing. This is an eating and sleeping flight. If you are doing anything but, you will be disappointed.

a very enjoyable trip report with colourful descriptions! I did find it rather strange,though, that you referred to a 777 as old!! But I do get your point

Hey Darren,
great reports! You did pretty much exactly the same thing I did, except in the reverse order.. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I do agree that they use the old 777 for the DXB routes. I wish they would update all their planes. Also, I find that the seats have a lot of problems with them. I would hate to see them having a full flight and pissing off a lot of F class passengers with broken seats, etc.. =)
