I arrived at Arlanda two hours before the flight to Copenhagen was going to departure. My travel friend and me headed for the Diners Club lounge after checking in. At the lounge we got something to drink and we even took an Alitalia timetable which we thought would be useful in case we would get a denied boarding later on this trip. I was sitting at 6C just behind business class. As always I prefer the aisle seat. As usual on short haul Scandinavian flights we where served a sandwich and something to drink while sitting in economy. The service was efficient and the flight arrived in Copenhagen on time.

Since we had two hours to kill at Copenhagen airport we headed for yet another Diners Club lounge. The Diners Club lounge at CPH is like the one at ARN shared with several airlines including Alitalia and KLM for instance. The lounge in CPH is much bigger, has a better view of the airport and also has a bigger selection of drinks and food. After spending some time in the lounge we headed for our gate and we hoped to the flight should still be overbooked. In the morning the flight was overbooked by 3 people and I volunteered as soon as I reached the gate but the gate agent said that it was not necessary since the flight was not going to be full after all L The flight down to Milano in Italy left on time. We where served some potato salad with roast beef, which was much, better food then I had expected in economy class. We had the winds with us and the flight down to Milano only took us 1hour and 40 minutes. This time I was sitting at 5C, which was another time just behind business class.

MILANO
Since we where only going to spend like 48 hours in Milano we only had one carry on baggage, each which make us leave Linate at almost no time at all. When we where headed for the taxis a guy suddenly asked us if we needed some transportation. We said yes of course and he led us out from the airport to his car. We had expected a taxi but it looked just like a normal car. For a moment we hesitate but since we didn’t have a clue where we where at the time we choose to jump. We said several times to him that we where going to stay at the Radisson SAS Scandinavia, which was, suppose to be located in central Milano. Still the guy manages to drive us to Hotel Bonaporte and claimed that was the Radisson SAS. Well Radisson SAS used to own that hotel but we sold it several months ago. A few minutes later the taxi driver finally found our hotel and we said goodbye and was thankful that we had arrived to the hotel safely.

Radisson SAS Scandinavia
At Radisson SAS we handed over our vouchers for our stay for two nights. We got room number 510 and headed for the room. The hotel was a bit smaller then I had expected but the room was nice. As usual I turned on the tv the first thing I did but all I could find was some Italian channels or some American movie dubbed into Italian so I turned down the TV pretty fast.

On Sunday the 24th we had plane of doing some shopping but we hadn’t thought about that most shops where closed on Sunday. We ended up with walking around in Milano before going back to the hotel for some dinner. The weather in Milano was very hot for our complete stay and the temperature was a few degrees over 30.

On Monday we had a nice breakfast at our hotel before we headed for Milano once again. For the 2nd straight day the weather was just great. A few degrees over 30 when we took our walk. I walked for several miles (at least it felt like it) but I couldn’t find the store I wanted to find. I was told before the trip that this Radisson SAS was located in downtown Milano but is that really correct? The neighbourhood around the hotel didn’t look like anything that belonged in downtown of a major European city.

We headed out the airport pretty early and while we where there we found out that the flight were delayed from Stockholm. We suddenly realized that this could be some problem for us since we only had a 55-minute connection when we landed for our domestic flight. The flight eventually left Linate at 20.15 and as soon as we where airborne they started to talk to the passengers that had connection. We where expected to land at 22.45-55 and since our domestic flight left at 23.00 this would be some serious problems for us. Since we had no checked baggage we asked if we could get a car at the international terminal that could take us to the domestic terminal but they said this has already been decided in Stockholm. We finally arrived at Arlanda at 22.55 and we headed straight the customer center. They rebooked our ticket for the first flight the next morning and they had also booked a room for us (one each actually) at the Radisson Sky City hotel, which is located inside the airport. I checked in and went to bed pretty quick since our flight had a departure time of 7.55 AM next morning. Another great thing with the hotel stay at Arlanda was that night gave me another 500 qualifying EuroBonus points.

My general impression of Milano (this is the 2nd time I visited) is that the town looks pretty old and run down. I didn’t see much new buildings. No offence to the Italians but they all seems to drive just like the recently stole the car they where driving.

With this trip I also became frequent flyer with status. I reached 18K, which is similar to Aeroplan Prestige somewhere over the Alps on the 23rd. Since I was late 9 hours to my final destination I called Diners Club and asked them what kind of insurance they had. Since I had paid the trip with the card they said I would get 1000SEK, which I thought was great. 1000SEK is also almost half of the price I actually paid for the tickets.

I hoped you enjoy reading my trip report.

Thanks for the trip report.

Please let us know if you get the compensation from the Diners Insurance. In the rules & conditions for the insurance at ( http://www.dinersclub.se/FormansForsakring.pdf ) it states that compensation is denied if the delay is caused by e.g. a missed connection ("Ersättning lämnas inte om försäkrad ankommer till resmålet försenad beroende på att försäkrad missat t ex ett an****ningsflyg.")

Maybe this does not apply if the connection is on the same ticket? I was recently 24 h delayed when returning from Philadelphia on NW/KLM so it would be interesting to know if I should file a claim or not.
