Days Inn Fredericksburg South
5316 Jefferson Davis Highway
Fredericksburg, Virginia 22408

To Whom It May Concern,

I stayed at a Days Inn property owned by Waterloo Hospitality, Inc. in Fredericksburg, Virginia (Days Inn Fredericksburg South) on the night of Thursday, June 21, 2001. I was traveling from the Philadelphia Area of Pennsylvania to Goldsboro, North Carolina. I had first chosen to stay at the Comfort Inn down the road, but upon learning that all of their non-smoking rooms were all sold out, I had chosen to stay at the Days Inn property. I had chosen to stay there because I had stayed at the property about two years ago and my experience then was good. I thought everything was going to be all right until I got to my room (Room 140). The first thing I saw on the walls as I was putting my suitcase down was dead bugs. I tried to ignore it. I went into the bathroom to take a shower. There was mildew in the shower. As I took my shower the drainage in the shower was not functioning correctly. The water pressure in the shower was very high. By the end of a three minute shower the water was three-quarters up my lower leg. I am tall and have very long legs and three-quarters up my lower leg is very far. Putting that behind me I decided to lay down and watch television. I laid down on a hard bed and there some of the channels had “snow” on them. These weren’t channels like Showtime or Cinemax. These were channels like CBS and NBC. I went to sleep and could not wait to wake up. I woke up at 6 am the next morning, took another shower, go dressed and went over to the check-in building for the continental breakfast. On arrival I saw that they only had donuts and coffee, no fruit or no cereal. I needed to get hot tea for my mother. I asked a woman that worked there (I did not get her name but she was a middle aged African-American woman) and she said very angrily “Yes I’ll get it for you.” Considering that she is in the hospitality business she needs to be nicer. That was my worst lodging experience ever. From now on I refuse to stay at a Days Inn. If a person has had this experience I have no clue how they could stay at the same chain again. That is now how I feel about Days Inn. I am not looking for a discount. I am only looking for an apology. Even if I get the nicest reply I still will never stay in a Days Inn ever again.

Sincerely,
Ryan J. Fagan

You really have not given a reason for wasting time/postage to acknowledge your unhappiness.

But you have my attention and I will not stay in another Days Inn.

Sounds like someone who's never stayed at a Days Inn before (you must have really lucked out last time you were there). They are cheap, so what did you expect? I've stayed at a Days Inn several times, and I know what to expect if I ever stay at one again (hopefully not, but you never know).

I see your signature line says not to fly Midway. Any particular reason?

Sorry to hear about your experience.

I'd sooner keep driving until I found something else. MileageAddict doesn't do Days Inn, Motel 6, Super 8, etc. They're too nasty.

When I take a long road trip, I always have Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express directories in my car. Choice Hotels (Sleep, Comfort) aren't so bad for the budget either. A few hours before I know I'll reach my destination or where I'll call it quits for the day, I call ahead to secure a room.

Gosh that experience sounds yuk! As one that used to work in the Hotel industry, I can only think that you may of got what you payed for! Though I have to say rudness by staff should not be on, and is often a reflection of what's happening at the management level...hope you have a better expereince on your next stay else where.

I have walked from a Hotel to another Hotel because the checkin was not a true reflection of what the establishment should of been...maybe I was being over the top, though got a great rate at the next place after telling them about their competitor.

Days Inn --yucch!

I had a similar experience. I stayed at the Days Inn on Lincoln in Chicago. It used to be an old welfare hotel that is now "independantly owned and operated" using the Days Inn Logo. The rooms were very small, old, & nasty with paper thin walls-very icky.

I think the problem with a chain like Days Inn is they don't police their independently owned properties so that they maintain the chain's standards. If you own a Days Inn, you can have the most beautiful property or the worst property. I think anything goes, they just don't care.

Days Inns are pretty digusting no matter where they are.

In my mind, they epitomize "cheap flea-bag hotel."
