American Airlines Flight Number 59
Scheduled:
Departing JFK @ 08.00 AM ET
Arriving @ SFO @ 11.23 AM PT
Actual:
Departed @ forgot to look, but pretty on-time
Arrived @ 10.55 AM PT
Business Class seat 7J (bulkhead, first row, window, on the right.)
767-200 (international configuration, with 2 rows in First Class and 5 rows in Business Class)
Business had the new, but dirty blue seats, and First had the pale/mushy brown leather.
There were 3 open seats in Business Class and no open seats in First Class.
Check-in was sort of efficient. I had to wait after a few couples in the First Class line at JFK Terminal 9. I cannot believe there are only 2 First Class and 2 Business Class check-in positions. With all the oneworld Emerald and AA Executive Platinum, and AA Platinums, and all the First and Business Class passengers, I was surprised the line was not longer. I do remember at check-in that I was not asked any of the security questions. The agent almost never talked to me nor gave any sort of recognition of my status.
I can never figure out when I check-in for my flight and I have an e-ticket, whether I should give my last name and/or where I am going! I just want to give the right information so they do not have to ask me so many questions.
I also saw just 2 positions checking in Qantas passengers. Does this mean all First, Business and Coach class passengers check-in at these two Qantas positions. I though Qantas leaves for Terminal 8?
Since I checked-in at the last minute I had to go right to the gate, and not stop in the Admirals Club where I walked right up and my boarding pass was fed thorough the electronic feeder. Just as I sat down in my seat the male flight attendant offered to take my coat, and then someone sat down right next to me. It was some old man. I actually took his pillow and blanket because I thought no one would be there. I hate it when you check the seat map on AA.com and find out that the seat next to you is open, but when the flight departs someone takes the seat next to you, so you cannot use it to put stuff on. Since this was a full flight the overhead bins, of which the center ones are very small and hard to pull down, were full and it took me a while to store my laptop somewhere safe.
When I went to out up my bag in the overhead bin above my seat someone came up right behind me to wait and put up his bag. Later, when I needed to access my bag. He had pushed mine up into the First Class bin. He was sitting a row behind me, but in the middle of the cabin. He should have asked!
Soon pre-departure drinks came around as people sat down. The choices were champagne, water or orange juice. There were no amenity kits. There were no head-phones (the cheap ones) in my seat so I had to ask, and a coach flight attendant brought them to me.
They showed a cabin wide preview of the movie, which was “Men of Honor.” They started the movie a little after the main course. I wanted the movie and the special CBS Eye on People I forgot when they handed out the menus.
Food menu:
Brunch
Appetizer
Fresh Seasonal Fruit-which consisted of 2 strawberries cut up, and small melon pieces, and a other a bagel or some other like apple strudel brad or toast of something. I just had the bagel. They were put in a glass frit bowl from France.
Entrees
Pepper Jack Cheese Omelet-which consisted of Fluffy Pepper Jack Cheese Omelet presented with Turkey Canadian Bacon ad Hash-Brown Potatoes
Cinnamon Apple French Toast-which consisted of Golden French Toast filled with a Cinnamon Apple Cream Cheese served with Maple Syrup, Scrambled Eggs and Turkey Canadian Bacon (I had this one. I wish the Maple Syrup were warm, but it got warm when it was on the excellent French Toast.)
Fruit and Cereal-which consisted of Kellog’s Cereal served with a whole banana and Yogurt
We were also offered another round of bagels, and that toast stuff etc…
My drink was pretty much continuously filled through out the flight. We also got a bottle of Evian handed out and not out in the seat.
Then we had a light refreshment
Fruit and Cheese Plate-which consisted of a samples of fine cheese complemented by seasonal fresh fruit and crackers. The cheese was a pizza shaped slice of Brie, and 2 thin slices of cheddar, with grapes and 3 wrapped Carr’s crackers.
Then I smelled the baking of fresh cookies. But we did not get the cookies, with a choice of peanut butter or chocolate chip, until about an hour after I smelled the smell.
We arrived into SFO pretty early.
Overall the flight was pretty nice. I have had better, bit that was on International Business. The flight attendants were more professional than the American Eagle ones, but mine had some trembling problem. He always shook when serving.
Just as a side note. I used miles for this flight (40K) and I was booked in U class. So for those of you who thought that only J, C, D, or I were for Business, my boarding pass said “U”, for an award ticket.
