Seat 22 L
I got to Helsinki airport quite early around 10pm, checked my bag in and got my seat 22 L. Wanted 21 L, since it was the bulkhead seat, but was reserved already http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif . After check-in i went to pick up my friend arriving from London at the arrivals area and then went to check her in (22 J). Went through security and then to a bar to have a quick pint before boarding. Boarding started quite early, and after we finished our drinks we went to the gate to find out that we were basically the last to board. We boarded the MD-11 and took our seats with the new winged headrests.
Our estimated flying time was 9 hours or so and as soon as we took of dinner was served:
Salmon and herring with rye bread topping, coleslaw and another salad..rootbeat if i remember correctly. For dessert a small slice of cheesecake which was actually good. After the dinner trolley came the drinks trolley and i opted forsome red wine (a choice of french or spanish was given) and a G&T. After the drink trolley passed the main purser came buy and offered us some complimentary champagne from c class, which ofcourse made us very happy http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
After dinner had a few more G&Tīs before i fell asleep. Two movies were shown but dont know which tgoo since i slept all the way until breakfast. Woke up when i was being handed a breakfast tray containing two kinds of omelette, sausage and a ovenbaked tomato with spinach on top...accompanied with a roll and oj. Ate the breakfast with great appetite eventhough it wasnt really that good... After reakfast landing cards were passed out which we promptly filled out with my friend...soon after we started our descent to Bangkok Don Muang Airport where we landed 14.something.... Saw a AF 747-400, Emirates 777 among other at the airport.
Immigration was a breeze annd luckily our luggage came through quickly thanks to priority tags http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Took a taxi to the Bangkok Marriott resort&spa (a royal riverside garden resort) where we were destined to stay for 6 nights..(or was it five...hmmm) Went to the reception and found out our reservation hadnt come through but got a room anyway. The room was still being cleaned so the very nice lady at the reception escorted us to the elephant bar for complimentary welcome drinks. As the room waqs ready she picked us up and escorted us to our room with a river view. Generally i really like the Marriott especially the pool area as it is very lush and spacious.

Seat 21 J
Got to the airport about 23.50 went to check-in where me and my friend were given seats 53G&H. Passed through security and immigration and again had a pint before boarding. Again we were among the last to board. While walking to the plane a lady working at the gate came to us and said she had moved us upfront to 21 J&L, which made us very happy ( would have gotten un upgrade but c class was totally full). Boarded the plane and took our seats. We deicided to ask if we could go to the cockpit for takeoff and we were more than welcome to. Chatted with the co-pilot a bit before take off since he wasnt doing anything ( Finnair has two captains and a firts officer on there bangkok flight because of the duration of the flight) Take-off was smooth and the view from the cockpit was beatiful as the city lights off Bangkok spread below us. After take-off we went back to our seats, and in a few minutes the purser came aroiund and again offered us champagne before dinner - had a few glasses was very good didnt catch the label though. Dinner was chicken and salad witha roll and desert...wasnt very good so concentrated on the champagne and G&Tīs http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Watched a but of "the perfect storm" which was immensly booring and then checked out the kiddie pack we got as a joke http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Later on we were brought some candy bars and chips from upfront which was good since i was quite hungry... Soon after went to sleep and slept through breakfast and woke up when we were 50 minutes away from Helsinki. The FA came and asked me if i would still want breakfast but decided not to but to have a glass of water instead...soon after we started landing preparation and landed 07.05 to snowy Helsinki Airport. Took a taxi home a slept until 4pm http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
So that was it
