12-17-00: Northwest 387
10:35 a.m.
I arrive at the international Terminal E at 9:30 and I check-in for my flight to Detroit Metropolitan airport on a Boeing 757. I show the gate agent my Silver Elite card and I get upgraded on both flights that I am taking today. They start boarding at around 10:05. I go to seat 4D but I am begged to move by a lady so she can sit next to her husband. So I move to seat 3B. The plane leaves the gate right on time for this 1 hour 34 minute flight to Detroit. Luckily the plane left just in time beating a 7 plane takeoff line. We takeoff on runway 22R with barely any runway used which is quite common for a 757. In first class we are served sandwhiches that consisted of bacon, letucce, and, tomato, with a choice of peanuts, pretzels, or goldfish. Approaching Detroit we are held in a long holding pattern as there is only one runway used for takeoffs and landings because of heavy snow. But somehow we still arrive ontime at Detroit! The service was excellent not only on the flight but also on the ground.
12-17-00: Northwest 1835
3:10 p.m.
I arrive at gate D7 to find that this flight is late two hours because the captain for this flight is stuck on another flight in LGA. At 5:10 on an A320 we are pushed back from the gate and ready for taxi, but we can't leave now, the captain informs us: A DC-10 is stuck because there is no traction to move, so sand trucks have to be ordered to help the DC-10 move which delays us another 30 minutes, but it is not over yet! We taxi to the other side of the airport to the de-icing station behind a DC-9 and a 727. This wastes another 20 minutes plus another 15 to taxi to the runway. We are served nothing except for peanuts on the flight, even in First Class. We don't arrive gate B-87 at IAH until around 8:30 p.m. CDT.
Overall, Northwest had excellent service on all the flights I took that weekend, whether it was at the gate or inflight.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK NORTHWEST!
