After reading an FT post about attaining US Gold Preferred status for flying 12.5k miles between 11/15 and 12/31, I booked my first itinerary as a Mileage Run. With two trips from SEA to the east coast for the holidays I was going to fall 942 miles short.

Doing some quick pricing from ATL where I was for the holidays, I was able to book a one day ATL-CLT-SAV-CLT-ATL ticket for under $110 giving me 2000 miles. As the mileage run day was approaching I was wondering how dumb I was to do a mileage run on xmas weekend with all the delays and cencelations. Then I realized that if I offered myself up to be bumped, the trip would pay for itself in multiples. But I would have no such luck.

Finishing half of my itin. in SAV I got off first from the F100 and asked to fly standby on the immediate return to CLT avoiding a 3.5 hour layover. I was able to get an exit row seat for the 50 minute flight back. I took a quick walk to the restroom and as I returned to the gate (no more than 5 minutes later) they were boarding all rows! Boarding the F100 back to CLT, I was asked by the FA's "Weren't you just on this flight?" I smiled and replied, "Yes I was." Noticing a confused look on their faces, I headed back to my seat.

I wandered around CLT. Grabbed a beer or two at Chili's and people watched for an hour and a half. Now was that fun!

I was able to get a bulkhead seat on my CLT-ATL flight and headed back to my family for the holiday weekend.

All of my flights on my SEA-CLT-ATL-CLT-SAV-CLT -ATL-PHL-SEA trip over the holiday week were on time (+/- 10 mins).

When yesterday's ATL-PHL-SEA trip post I will be a US gold until 2/28/02

Most important question: Did you get upgraded on any of the legs? Or you haven't earned enough US upgrades yet?

24k for that SEA-FRA run will be nice!

Terenz- yes I was in FC for ATL-CLT-SAV (1 cert, that I didn't have)... but was lucky enough to get a seat on the earlier flights going back limiting my layover time.
