Have people here looked at the trip reports at Airliners.net? Seems like our is a much more mature forum than the other.

Don't waste your time with a bunch of dumb tweleve years old. How long can you go through Airbus is better than Boeing (no reasons why..."they just are, and you're wrong!" or that Delta is the best airline and anyone who thinks that UA is better is wrong.

I stopped going there about two years ago when they started sucking. Back then people actually knew what they were talking about.

I agree, there trip report board is more of a general Q and A about travel. I also noticed that many of the regular posters are around 14-16. They were pretty mature but didnt have the consumate airline knowledge of many here.

A recent report said the following:

(paraphrase), "On a recent BA flight, the FA's let me fulfill a dream. They let me serve the meal."

Doesn't that come with a big insurance "no-no"?

Being a well-travelled 15 year old, it's hard to stifle laughs from reading some of the posts on that ridiculous board...something with a title of "NW SF0-MSP-DCA-MSP-SFO" would have a body of

Last year, I went to Wasshingten to visite my grandmother. We flew NOrthewst. The stwearddeess were nice because they gave me a whole can of soda, and 2 bags of peanut mix. It was snoweing when we got to Minneapollis. When we got to San Frnacisco (SCO), our bags were wet. Maybe the rain came through the luggage doors.

The airliners.net discussion boards are usually a joke. 90% of the users there are immature teenagers who believe that their opinion is gospel truth.

Sadly though, it does tend to attract some pretty influential people, who get turned off (or worse still, driven off) by the squabbling kids.

One example was my dad, who heads up the Inflight Service department of an international airline. He once posted about the details of a codeshare agreement he personally had helped negotiate, only to be corrected by a 15 year old who had "heard" differently.

Boy that must have been pretty embarasing for your father. He worked on a deal himself, and a 15 year old knows the agreement better than he does. ... just kidding.

Anyway, interesting link, but I don't I'll be going to that discussion board again!

On occasion I will go check out airliner.net but usually leave in frustration because their servers are soooo slow and it takes soooo long to load pages http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mad.gif

Not all teenage posters are immature or unknowledgeable, at least the ones on this board aren't. I just wanted to clear that up as to prevent any animosity between the under 20's and the old people, like me, at 24 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif In addition, the airliners.net board is good for a laugh and keeps many "less advanced" travellers off our board. Thanks to another FT'er, I use airliners.net to look at (and be amazed at) the pictures!

I know I shouldn't... but... *ehem*...
http://www.airliners.net/discussions/non_aviation/read.main/27128/

To be fair, a lot of the threads in the civil aviation forum are interesting and informative... but stay out of the "misc" one. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Should I be scared that that thread will bring all the Airliners.Net folks over here and turn FlyerTalk into Airliners.Net?

by the way, let me add that the photo datebase at Airliners.net is the best I've ever found. I just don't like the message boards.

I am a frequent user of Airliners.net, and I can say with certainty that you guys haven't experienced it. First off, we are 2 different sites, one for enthusiasts(airliners), and 1 for travelers(FlyerTalk). If you want to consider differently, then that is fine. Secondly, we are not all 'dumb tweleve years old'. There are a lot of Flight attendants, gate agents, and pilots. I may only be 14, but I am not dumb. I have an IQ of 149, and my SAT score is 1280(At 13!). And I believe that the people we have is a lot better than a bunch of frequent flyers who fly 100,000 miles a year, then complain when they can't get a free upgrade, or the plane is late.

PS: The administrator told us that we should have a faster server in about one week.

I don't that when we say 'dumb' we are referring to your intellectual ability. We're talking about knowledge of travel and air travel especially. At least I am.

You don't see too many questions like "I saw a United plane in Los Angeles last week. I didn't know they flew there. Where was the plane going?" on FlyerTalk, but I've seen that on Airliners.Net.

I don't care what you got on the SAT or what your IQ is; I am talking about knowledge of air travel.

Whoa!!!!!! Let's put and end to the bantering now. I am sorry I began this thread. I didn't intend this to ensue. Yes, Flyertalk and Airliners.net are two distinct sites. This one tends to attract those wishing to maximize miles. That one tends to attract those who just love aviation, whatever their age. Both serve a purpose.

Not to pick bones or anything, but based upon your fractured grammar I would guess that you did better in the SAT Math section than the Verbal? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

And SAT scores mean nothing. I scored a 1510 at age 14 - now look at me http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

What kind of self-important egomaniac even ponders the notion in voluntarily engaging in an SAT or IQ test at the young age of 13? Could he not get picked for dodge-ball? Not to be taken as insult (I guess I do not see how that could be avoided, but...) just a question to satisfy my own curiousity.

JimmmyJames. Just to defend Lowairfare, there is nothing wrong with taking those tests at that age. I took an IQ test when I was 4 as part of the application process to elementary school, then took the SAT at age 13 when I was applying to high school. So, basically its pretty common for kids that age to be taking such exams. What is questionable is using them to prove your mental ability over the internet. It shows a true lack of self confidence.

Sorry about the IQ thingy, I have been completing the projects that the teachers have due before winter break so they have time to grade them. As a result, for the past week I have constantly been staying up til 1 am, then get up at 5 to get ready for school. I was thinking that they were talking 'dumb' as in the stereotypical country 'hick'. So in the words of Emily Littela(sp?): Never Mind.

I would like to apologize, but I still stand behind my statements in saying that these are two different forums.

Bizjet: One major difference between us is what you said. In the 'I saw a...' posts, there are people that just come there(A.net) with qustions. In FT, you don't have that a lot because frequent flyers don't care about flying as much(no offense.)

PS: In my school district, you have to get your IQ taken to be in the challenge program. I was also sent an application to take the SAT by Johns Hopkinss Talent search, I didn't choose it on my own.(BTW, this is just a clarifying statement, I didn't mean to brag.)

PPS: B747-437B: Verbal 540; Math 740.

IMO,

If one if 14 years old and staying up until 1 and getting up at 5 to do school work, then there is something seriously wrong. Then again, if I had that much work, I probably wouldn't be spending that much time on the internet, either.

By the way, it's the Hopkins CTY/CAA program has some really terrific courses/programs. I attended one of the camps at one point, and was later a TA.

As someone who was 14 only 10 years ago(making me 24 now http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ) I found that my high school regularly assigned homework that would keep me up past midnight. For the sake of my grades I am glad I didnt know that flyertalk existed, or I would have been hooked. I still count my blessings for the miles that I was able to accrue on flights paid for by my parents when I was younger. My dad didnt do mileage runs, but I did, simply by taking trips with him that had no purpose for me other than the actual trip. Ofcourse, I didnt care as much then about the status or miles but I wanted to travel as much as I could, and now have the FF balances to benefit from that. Happy Holidays

I actually took a gander at the airliners.net website before I opened my mouth again. I did not have an extensive look at the boards, but I really do enjoy the massive database of aircraft photos. Look like an interesting and entertaining site.

I've visited airliners.net message board a few times. There are way tooo many of hte same type of messages being posted. "Boeing vs. Airbus?" "Let's talk about Delta!" "Lets talk about CO" "DL and CO's the best" etc. It's ridicoulous! By viewing the profiles of a bunch of users, I found that most are young kids.. go figure.

The aviation phots are what brings me to visit airliners.net, but that's about it. Flyer Talk and Trip.com have much mature audiences.
