Trip report New York and Seattle to Los Cabos
Part 1.
My Girlfriend Lynn and I traveling to Cabo San Lucas(SJD) on
America West, she departed from Seattle, I left from Newark,
meeting in Phoenix.
My flight arrives about 75 mins late, making my 90 layover a 15
dash through the airport.
Lynn(onepass gold elite) was upgraded on the SEA-PHX leg, and on
standby for FC on the PHX-SJD. I'm(onepass platinum) already
confirmed in first.
She's waiting for me at the gate, we kiss, I say, what gate?
We dash off to catch the flight. When we get to the gate, we ask
about her FC upgrade(I prefer not to have to give up my seat)
The gate agent, takes her boarding pass and hands her a FC one http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Flights were uneventful, except for the snuggling and kissing http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Arrive Los Cabos airport on time. If you havent been to that airport,
it might as well be a marine airstrip on tarawa, one runway, no taxiways.
We're the only flight there, and make it through customs and immigration
without a hitch.
First time we see the timeshare folks, they are everywhere, offering
just about everything. I'm not really interested in buying a timeshare but
they start upping the offer. I finally agree to take one of their presentations(we ended up
going to 3 of them, more on this later). They gave us a nice deal, roundtrip airport to hotel transportation,
3 $50 dinner vouchers plus breakfast and 2 mexican blankets (about $240)
We get the taxi to the hotel(the Sheraton Hacienda del Mar). The hotel is wonderful, as nice
a hotel as we've stayed at. upon arrival, we discover they have timeshares here also. The van dropped
up off at the timeshare lobby, not the hotel lobby. The Hacienda del mar complex is a series of
small building, very mexican style, pools, and restuarants and connected by walking paths. The hotel
has a set of electric carts to shuttle you around the complex and we took one to the Hotel lobby.
After we check in, they give us another cart ride, showing us where everything is in the complex.
Later that afternoon we meet the timeshare salesperson at the hotel, they want us to see their
timeshare pitch. I settle for $100 dinner voucher, 2 sunset cruise tickets, 2 glass bottom boat
rides and breakfast, they also give us 6 coupons for
drinks at various bars/restuarants at the hotel, about $230).
These presentations last about 75-90 minutes, and I know how to
say NO.
The hotel room is very nice(about 450sf, plus another 70sf patio, overlooking playa barco verado(shipwreck
beach) You can still still the very rusted remains of a japanese frieghter that ran around in the 60s.
The bathroom has a jaccuzi tub, twin sinks and a seperate shower(large enough for 2 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif )
Our room is about a 40 yard walk, from the patio to the beach. maybe 100 yeards to the largest of the several
pools at the hotel.
We took lots of great pics during the trip, and when I figure out how to upload them using Randy's new service,
I'll do so.
One minor note, no coffee maker in the room. We usually like to make fresh brewed ice tea when we travel,
one call to the front desk and 15 mins later the coffee maker, with an ample supply of filters arrives.
Speaking of filters and beverages(anyone travelling to mexico should be cautious about the water. Our cart
driver informs us to NOT drink the tap water. There is aone gallon bottle of purificata aqua in the room
and we are told, just ask if you need more. Each day of our stay, housekeeping left new bottle.
The hotel is about 7 miles from downtown cabo, taxi's are plentiful and the hotel has a shuttle which runs
every 2 hours(cost is a nominal 40 pesos(a little over 4 dollars).
