Don't know if any of you were at DTW on Friday, August 25th, but we were on the plane (RJ 85) after a 2 hour delay already and had just closed the door.

We sat there for ten minutes till the captain reported the there was a security breach in the airport - someone or some people had been able to get through security without being screened. Airport officials were trying to determine if our door was shut before or after the incident. If it was after, we were going to have to deplane with our carry-on's and be re-screened.

I guess a lot of planes and passengers had to go through this ordeal. That must've been awful. We made it and didn't have to go through it. Made taxiing go quick though! We were number 2 for takeoff right from pushing off!

Anyone else have to go through this yeterday or have a simliar incident?

Helpful advice for wouldbe highjackers: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I notice that uniform police officers seem to walk through security completely unchecked...and they have a gun in plain sight! The security agents don't even give a second look for at the officers. I have thought of asking security if the actually know the officer or simply trust that it is really a police officer.

Things that are in plain sight or really obvious are often overlooked. A security system is only as good as the weakest element..and the human factor is the weak link in the security chain.

Eh, any fool could get through Detroit security. I watched several people go through security detectors with the lights flashing and dinging, and they were just ignored. Some even asked what should I do and they were just waved on.

Shudder.. with such weak links in the airport system, you gotta wonder.

Detroit definitely sounds like an airport to be avoided. Has it always been like this???
