Today I spend one day at Frankfurt International Aiport. We arrived at 11.25 from Stockholm and returned at 19.20 and here is my report.
1) Frankfurt International Aiport was much bigger then I believed. The 2nd largest in Europe, only Heathrow is bigger but Frankfurt is coming closer and closer.
2) The Diners Club Lounge must be the smallest lounge in the world
3) I heard that Lufthansa is demanding a 4th runway, otherwise they are threating to leave for Munich instead with most of their flights.
Well, FRA may be the one of the biggest airports of Europe but I really do not like FRA Airport.
It is big and well organized but not very charming for me. You need to walk a lot between gates. And the terminals have a very cold looking (inside). But I have to continue to use it. I am a Miles&More member and will be FTL after my flight to Buenos Aires (EZE) this Wednesday. Yupii! Star Silver! Not very bad for a student who travel for pleasure only. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
You folks don't like the nice McDonalds with that great huge playground area! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
What better way to spend a lot of unexpected extra downtime due to a delay? Work? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

At one time there was talk of taking over Rhein-Main Air Base for FRA expansion...

If you switched your allegiance to AA, you could then fly in and out of the wonderful airport at Zurich--but you have to leave from ORD to get there, which is kind of a downside.

And AA is moving their ZRH flights to DFW starting this Thursday 6/1.

FRA is my favorite airport in Europe because of its basement, and sub-basement...the real shops (NOT "Duty Free"). ZRH has a good supermarket, but the one at FRA is the best. (I'm often carrying an entire suitcase of food to some "exotic" location.)

I love the Diners Club lounge in FRA. I think it's very nice and it has this "First class" like massage chair where you can take a nap in. I didn't find such a chair in any other lounge I've been to.
The problem with the lounge is that it is outside the passport control area and when you get to it you have to queue again for the passport control - a process that can take more than 1/2 an hour.
The DC lounge in FRA (at the same location as before: Term 1, Lounge B, 8-21, closed So, cash adv DM500, 1 guest free, add + DM 10) is no longer outside the passport and control area (if you connect to outside the EU). As I noticed this last Saturday (when flying to LAX with PremEx) you can now connect without security and passport problems between C (with the RCC from UA located at C2) and B.
