Upon check in, the ticket agent informed me that their computers were down. Check-in had to be performed manually. Boarding passes were hand-written and only reflected the date and the flight number. Since they are not able to determine seat assignments, the flight was declared as open seating. The agent also refused to write down my LatinPass number stating that I should just give my LatinPass number to the agent checking me in for the return flight.
When boarding commenced, airline employees did not assist passengers who needed help. Boarding was very disorganized and chaotic. When everyone finally boarded the plane, the flight attendants prepared the cabin for take off. We waited for the plane to taxi into the runway. There were no announcements from any of the in-flight crew explaining why we were still at the gate. After a few more minutes of waiting, we finally left the gate and left 30 minutes after our scheduled departure time.
Aeropostal used an old DC9-50 with a 2-3 configuration for this haul. The seat pitch on this all-coach flight was approximately 32 inches. The cabin was not very clean and in very poor condition. The cabin should be refurbished since it was clearly worn. The seats were uncomfortable.
The 50-minute flight was designated as a snack flight. The snack service consisted of a cold sandwich with mystery meat. Drinks were limited to water, juices, and soda. Coffee was not served on this flight. The flight attendants were neither friendly nor attentive. Our arrival was unremarkable. We safely landed in Aruba 40 minutes late.
Aeropostal needs to improve the quality of their product drastically if they plan to compete seriously with other Latin American carriers. Aeropostal needs to upgrade the interior of its DC9-50 as well as train their in-flight staff to be friendlier and more sensitive to the needs of their passengers. Improving the quality of food and beverage will also work to their advantage. F
