I was welcomed by a smiling Avianca agent when I checked-in for the flight. I handed her my LatinPass card and was assured that my LatinPass number was in the record. I promptly received my boarding pass (which did not show my LatinPass number) with an invitation to Avianca's business class lounge.

Boarding commenced about 30 minutes before scheduled departure time. Business class passengers were offered drinks and a selection of newspapers upon boarding. Both the announcements and safety demonstrations were conducted in Spanish and English. The flight departed on time.

Avianca uses a 757 with a 2-2 configuration (3 rows). The seat pitch of approximately 50 inches was very generous and was certainly a welcome surprise. The cabin was clean and in good repair. The seats were a little uncomfortable (hard seats). They came with an adjustable headrest and footrest.

The flight was designated as a snack flight (The flight time was 110 minutes). Unlike US airlines, a decent snack was served. The snack would be the equivalent of a meal on a US airline. However, the quality of the food is far superior on Avianca. The snack service started with a green salad and warm rolls (the butter actually melted). A hot meal, carne con pasta (grilled, marinated beef strips on farfalle and mixed vegetables), followed. The snack ended with a triple-layer sponge cake served with caramelized sugar which went well with a cup of freshly brewed café negro (brewed, black Colombian coffee) and a view of the snow-capped Sierra Nevadas. The snack service was excellent. The flight attendants were friendly and very attentive. More drinks were offered until our final approach to Bogota. The flight arrived 15 minutes early.

In summary, this Avianca flight was a pleasant surprise. Avianca personnel were friendly, courteous, and efficient. In-flight service and amenities were excellent. Avianca certainly deserves your consideration if you have any travel plans to South America. A

US airline service is the pits.

Was on an BA LHR - AMS flight last month. BA served a full hot lunch with linen napkins ....on a 50 minute flight. Even coach got a large sandwich ,beverage service and warm smiles from the BA staff on the 757.

The latin pass airlines are certainly gaining some good reviews here - perhaps the program turns out in their favor - thanks for the reports - one question por favor - do you speak spanish?

Unfortunately, I don't speak Spanish. I did learn a few words and phrases towards the end of our trip.

Loved all your reports AusTxHiker! SOME SNACK! Yes the US airlines should be world leaders given the resources, expertise etc they have-lots of work to do to make US flights a travel experience rather than just people moving.
