Another one of those Business trips!

The 4am alarm came around 3am when Yaz and Eddie started a howling match and chase around the apartment. I slowly get out of bed and next think I see is Eddie sitting on the case holding my laptop. I push him off thinking NOTHING could go wrong. Spoke too soon.

I was crabby so I managed to get my driver to take me to EWR. Had to wait a few minutes at the First Class/Premier Check-in but someone finally showed. UPgrades cleared but I had to turn over 1500 mi in certificates. It was ok, I desprately needed those first class seats to work a little and sleep a little more.

UA 637 is a complete blurr. I got on the plane, got an early boarding COke (The F-A joked that's her wakeup drink) and slept thru breakfast till we landed about a half hour later. A mad dash from Terminals C To B to the connecting flight UA 601 to get me to DFW.

You Picked a Fine Time to Fly Lucille

I managed to get some work done and this beautiful red haired (always had a thing for red haired girls) named Lucille noticed teh cat pictures I put on the tray. (I like looking at the cats as I work) and she said "Oh good, a man who likes cats." So we laughed and after I finsihed some work end up chatting on and off for about an hour about our jobs, the cats, flying, United, I told her about Flyertalk and some of my closest friends.

Lucille said I was a very lucky person to find such a wonderful group of friends. I said "I say 'THANKS' every day of my life."

We got to talk because most of the people in first just went to sleep. There were 8 First class seats, Five 1K's, 1 PremEx (ME) and two no status. She was facinated about my interest in the manifest.

The captain announced that he was landing 15 minutes early. So Lucille rushes to make the cabin ready for deboarding. I rush to get to my seat and pack up my laptop and stick it in the overhead (I'm in one b.) I head a thud upstairs but pay it more mind. BIG MISTAKE.

SO after I pass my cat businesscard to Lucille (I assumed she was NOT married) said let's meet again. STAY TUNED>

Back on the tram to the AA terminal and My connecting flight on AMERICAN To Austin:
AA 1538.

At Least It has PEPSI on Board

I had the rudest F-As in Coach who both seemed more interested in gabbing than serving the customers. I passed n whatever they were serving and just asked for a PEPSI.
The F-A makes a face to her assistant and says "there's alwasy one of those on board."

SO she slams the can on the tray table. I said "Can I have a glass too?" Another slam.

Luckily the flight was under an hour or I was going to get on the AT&T phone and call customer service for AA. This is why I prefer U-A.

One BUMP too many for the Old Black Laptop

There's a car service at baggage to take me to the station for the seminars. We get to the station and I set up for the seminar, turn on the laptop, get a Lot of gobbily gook and then a black screen. This is not good.

Call New York and find out the Laptop I got had problems on the last trip as well. "OK, then why did you give me a defective Laptop."
It was impossible to get a laptop so they would get the AUstin and then the Dallas station that I needed to use their own equipment.

The smart thing #1: I saved all my notes on hardcopy paper and disc.
Smart Thing #2: the station had three spare laptops so I just needed 10 minutes to load my discs on that.

I did NOT panic and luckily the purpose of these meetings were just to see their shows.

After two seminars, a nice steak dinner at Ruth's Chris (the boss's favorite place) ended up at the Embassy Suites (I was going to the HItlon but changed it for a cheaper rate... about 65 bucks cheaper so company can let me fly U-A!) the desk person was well aware of the Hilton HHonors linkup -- one of his first questions: "DO you want to sign up for HHonors?" I showed him my HHonors goldcard and got a nice room near the top of the hotel.

I stayed here before with Steve and Joyce. Nice hotel, nice big bed with the fold out couch for company. I crashed and prepared for the next round of Seminars and then off to DFW.

A FOUR PAWS UP WESTIN

Most of this trip was uneventful, so I'm flash forwarding to Dallas. Holly met me at the gate and we headed to the Westin.. nice to have someone drive me around Dallas traffic: I think I would hate driving there as much as NYC.

This was a belated Birthday celebration for HOlly... work prevented me from celebrating her birthday in April, but I never forget someone's b-day!

We arrive at the Westin Galleria where I stayed before. From the moment of arrival, we were treated special. Nice "good evening" greetings, offers to help with the luggage.

I get to the desk and Mahita (SP?) a very friendly desk agent at the Starwood Preferred Guest check-in area says I got a nice upgrade to a high floor room with big bed on the 18th floor/Galleria Level. Two luggage people offer to bring up my bags to my room.

This is a very good hotel, right next door to the Galleria Mall (which HOlly liked.) Gary, with Service Express brings my bags up and offers to answer any questions. We asked how long is the drive to the Mansion at Turtle Creek he can we can do it in about 20 minutes or take a cab, which we decided to do.

Gary gives a few suggestions for a light lunch place and I tell him I stayed there before and like the hotel. The one setback: No Heavenly Beds!!! He says there are coming, slowly.

So after some shopping (Holly knows the mall very well) we agree to meet about 5:30 p to go to the Mansion (It will be just the two of us.)

I check my messages. Lucille calls and says she is STUCK in L-A because of the U-A pilots strike. So we promised to meet up when she ever got to NYC.

An Estate of Fine Texas Cuisine!

HOlly and I get a cab right away to the Mansion (she was afraid of getting lost... she never was to that part of Dallas.) A nice drive to a fancy section of Dallas and we enter the driveway...

It looks like one of those plantatation houses. It's also a hotel and it's a nice place to escape for the weekend. But we were interested in the restaurant.

Reservations all set, and they didn't mind we were five minutes late. (The greeter joked "at least you were ONLY five minutes late!") The place had the a/c pumping and HOlly was cold. IT was a bit dark but we put us in this garden area enclosed by glass.

I think we have five people serving us: an assistant, the main waiter, the wine stewart, the desert person and another waiter answering questions on the menu. WHAT a MENU (It changes daily according to the staff.)

We started with drinks: Bloody Mary for HOlly, and Shiner Bock for me (I joked I went almost 2000 mi to get one and I was going to enjoy it.)

Holly was amazed by the wine list (I defer to her or anyone else for wine, I know NOTHING about picking wines!) She chose an Ebenezzer from Australia.. very light, non powering taste and nice finish.

Holly starts with teh crabmeat salad, nicely presented, and I got for the Texas Crabcakes (I decided to do an ALL TEXAS Meal!) Holly's main course is some Lamb (sorry PremEx) dish stuffed wtih Italian sausage, I went with the steak Diane and a very nice wine sauce with nice potatoes and veggies.

Even though we were stuffed... we had to have desert: both of us went with Chocolate sweets: I can't remember Holly's because I was enjoying the Mansion's House speciality Chocolate Souffle cake with I think every kind of chocolate invented. I went into Chocolate shock over it... Three bites and you were full!

SO if you need a special dining experience or for JAWS to take his wife out for a special occasion... go to the Mansion! IT's FOUR PAWS UP IN THE CAT'S BOOK!

Please Come back to the Westin!

Westin gave one wakeup call Sunday morning and they asked if I needed a second. very nice.

Gary was up early to get my bags and one more bag: a Nordstrom bag full of goody for some lucky friends in teh future (I"m not Saying who!) Mahita told me to doublecheck my bill for mistakes even after I said the bill was fine.

It's nice to be remembered by name, to get a handshake by Gary, to get the finest customer service, and a "Please come back soon" from the staff. IT's a terrific hotel and Starwood should salute everyone at the Westin galleria, especially Gary at Service Express. Thanks Starwood!

Well, Catman, you finally got to enjoy my favorite Texas restaurant. Been there about 10 times in the past two years and never an even questionable meal. Chef Dean Fearing is an acquaintance from another restaurant in another city.

Too bad you didn't get to dine in the main area, as you walk into the restaurant. That's where all the celebs dine. Also, if you did not vist the bar, you missed a great one. The bar maitre de, Gina, will take very good care of you and you could have partaken of a choice of great cigars.

The Mansion on Turtle Creek is a six star if there ever was one.

Shadow: Holly was leaning towards the oysters but I can't eat raw fish. (I get sick.) But there were so many choices it was so hard to decide.

I was disappointed they didn't have the Shiner Bock Chicken there. That would have been a culinary treat.

Holly enjoyed the place and so did I.

JAWS: We did peek into the main dining room and it was impressive. Maybe next time. Maybe next tiem you get to DFW and I get to DFW we can go to your favorite Texas Restaurant for dinner and Shiner Bocks!

I'll be eating there again!

Catman--don't you even think about coming to Austin next time without saving time for the Bluebonnet tour! (I'll make sure they serve Pepsi and other libations at every restaurant we haunt!)
