After having such a great flight on QF8 from LAX, I was unsure about the service on my next leg of my trip. Arrived at the Sydney airport where I did some shopping. Construction all around for the olympics. Went to the Qantas check in desk were I was handed a red, white and blue carry on bag for my gifts. I was then ushered into the Qantas Club. There are two sections of the Qantas club, separated for first and business class passengers. I went to the first class lounge where a magnificent breakfast buffet was set up, after which a bufet of guacamole, chicken and shrimp sandwiches, and desserts abounded. I did pig out.
The 747-400 to Hong Kong looked about the same as my previous flight. I wanted to finish some videos that I had not finished on my previous flights. Meal service consisted of a lunch choice of prawn salad, lobster soup, or antipasto for appetizer. This was followed by a choice of cod, beef,or chicken. Potatoes and rice were great. Refreshment along the flight consisted of a fabulous steak sandwich with tomato chili relish on french roll. Great taste. More refreshment choices included soup, salad and fruit tart. The food was absolutely spectacular, as was the service. A a matter of fact, the lead steward took me into the cockpit to observe . Remarkable how automated the 747 is.
Seats in first were absolutely terrific. Servce once again showed me how American airlines are running a distant second place.
Landed in HKG on schedule, and took the covered bridge to the Regal Airport Hotel which was outrageous. Huge lobby, great food options, and very well equipped rooms with bed, lounge chair, and great views. Incidentally great sauna in the health club. Will report back later...

Nice report:

Good to see someone who is enthusiastic about their travels and doesn't turn up their noses at everything offered. Pigging out is one of life's pleasures http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Qantas always did lay on the little goodies. I have a couple of very classy blue carry-on bags from flying first class with them in the 80s when I flew the Pacific more frequently than I do these days. Still use a set of Wedgewood napkin rings I got as a gift a few years back as well. Glad to know one carrier hasn't cut back on these little indulgances.

sarecca: I flew QF 8 last year from LAX-SYD (and its return of QF 7) in Business Class and was thrilled with Qantas's service and the quality of the whole experience. As I departed the plane in SYD, I did step into the First Class cabin to see the new sleeper seats. After reading your report, I now wish I'd tossed in another 30k miles and flown up front! Lesson learned! Thanks for a great report. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
