This one happened last month - Forgot to post it - so here goes -
LAS-SFO Shuttle by UA F class - Worried about the usual SFO weather related days, I booked a very long (3.5 HR) connection in SFO - As luck would have it I was wrong - Beautiful day and we departed LAS on time and arrived SFO on time - typical Shuttle flight in F - Channel 9 and Starbucks !!!!
SFO - NRT JAL F class
I had never flown JAL before - I really like ANA F class - Now I love JAL F class - Spent some time in the cramped JL F lounge at SFO - not much in the way of amenities and food but comfortable enough - Boarded the 747-400 during preboard and was offered beverage of my choice - but I declined - light F class load - only 6 pax for 14 seats - had 2 seats to myself - chose the Japanese meal and really enjoyed it - drank some nice red wine and plenty of Kirin beer - used the futuristic Eye Trek goggles to watch Analyze this for the 100th time - got about 4 hours sleep - the JAL full flat seat is very comfortable - Very smooth flight - Woke up and had a delicious bbq eel over rice snack and Japanese pickles - Only negative was very limited inflight entertainment - this will be corrected on JAL's new 747-400 equipped with the MAGIC system - now on JFK - NRT landed 10 mins. behind schedule despite ver prompt SFO departure due to headwinds -
Hotel Nikko NRT - Had to overnight b/c JAL does not have an evening departure to KUL - decent room and fair reataurant - fine for 1 night
NRT-KUL - JAL C class - MD-11 (2 classes only C/Y) - C class was deserted - Had the entire rear C class compartment to myself - played Nintendo system - kind of tough b/c instructions were in Japanese - also watched Analyze this AGAIN - Had the Japanese lunch option which was quite good- This uneventful leg arrived early in KUL - The JAL C class seat on the MD-11 was fair at best(2x3x2 config - but I had 2 seats to myself so I can't complain
Hilton KL - Very decent hotel at a very cheap price (around 65 $ /night) - I remember paying triple that amount 3 years ago - I am HHonors Diamond - got a large King room on Exec. floor- I like this property and the service is excellent - the lounge staff is nice and the food and beverages in the lounge are quite plentiful/good -
KUL - SIN - SQ F class - Flew the KL-SIN shuttle on an older SQ A -310 - Very unusual because it was very un-SQ like - this plane really need rehab quite urgently - 50 min flight offered an F class snack and a couple of Tiger beers (my fav) - arrived on time
Conrad International SIN - Great hotel - with superb Exec. lounge - great food and booze - Rooms are very modern and terrific service
SIN - NRT JAL C class - The C Class on this MD-11 was absoultely packed - I had an aisle on the 2 side of C class in the rear cabin -I really could not get comfortable in the JAL C class seat on this leg - had the Japanese meal again and played some Nintendo - nothing remarkable or special on this leg -
Hyatt Century Tokyo - overnight with business dinner in Shinjuku - Nice hotel - had room on the Regency floor but never got to enjoy the lounge - only complaint was lack of king bed for me -
NRT-SFO - JAL F class - the F class on this evening departure was 100% full - The 747-400 departed on time and I once again enjoyed the Japanese meal and bbq eel snack - listened to the audio programs and slept for several hours -very quick flight due to strong tailwind - arrived SFO a few minutes early and zipped through Customs -
SFO-LAS HP (Hellishly Poor) F class - WHOOOPS- HP cancelled - what a surprise - mechanical - another HUGE surprise - shipped over to UA for "EXTRA SEGMENT" flight - Shuttle service - but on an A-320 - left 1.5 hours late and arrived about 1 1/4 hours late - Channel 9 and Diet Coke - kazman
HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR TO ALL FT'ERS

Kazman -

It sounds like you enjoyed the Conrad in SIN. I usually stay at the Westin Plaza due to its nice location, but as I am Gold also with HH, I am wondering if I should try the Conrad with a guaranteed upgrade.

Tell me more about the exec. lounge - comp. bev + food? I ask because the Conrad HKG is VERY stingy...they charge you for everything including water or cokes on the exec. floor.

Thanks.

Carberry,
Soft drinks and alcohol were complimentary on the exec. floor at the Conrad in SIN - I drank plenty of complimentary Tiger beer - The food selection was just fine - the evening snacks usually had 2 or 3 hot entrees - such as a noodle dish or dumplings - and 1/2 cold entrees such as chips and dip or smoked salmon - and the usual crudite - Breakfast had hot and cold selections - hot- the usual eggs, bacon, potato triangle - cold - cerel, fruit, muffins, smoked salmon - Also a great view of the city from the lounge and an exceptional staff - learned my name the first night and called me by my name the entire 4 night stay - also had a good selection of int'l papers and mags in the lounge - kazman
