MSY-DEN UA 727 FC
Boarded the aircraft ... no drink offered before take-off. This UA 727 is nicer than any 727 I've been on in the DL fleet. I had the fruit plate for breakfast and Pixie had the sampler, both very good. Got to experience channel 9 for the first and only time on this trip. Uneventful flight that landed a few minutes early.
DEN RCC
Talk about a massive airport ... went to the RCC (I think it was the East one), no problem getting in with the CRC card. What's the deal with the electric doors? Got a coke (I'm not paying for an alcoholic beverage) and spent the time online waiting for the next flight. I hate the Nortel/ATT phones that I found in all the RCC's we visited (DEN, LAX, and HNL). To dial out on the computer you have to take it off the hook and leave it off the hook until it tells you to hang it up ...
DEN-LAX UA 737 FC
Another uneventful flight until the end. The Jetway was out of commission because of construction, so they had to wheel airstairs up to the plane which took about ten minutes, then the agents at the airport were having trouble disarming the door alarms ...
LAX RCC
Met up with a rowdy bunch at the RCC. Used two free drink coupons (Thanks rhw88!), auh2o was unsuccessful in scamming more from the desk agents, and ended up paying for the last few drinks before departure.
LAX-HNL UA57 747-200 BC PiP Express!!!
Boarded the flight. Got offered OJ/champagne/water, demanded beer ... auh2o and I scout out the plane in search of the allusive pre-flight beer ... finally get one.
There was a very rowdy bunch in the upper deck with us ... much drinking/clapping/hollaring ... the FAA inspector riding in the cockpit must have been wondering what the heck was going on ...
The plane was sorely understocked in Jack Daniels, and after doing a few rounds of shots, the supply had run dry ...
I had the ahi ahi, which I thought was very good (others disagreed, guess I have simple tastes). There was a movie playing (Runaway Bride), but the screen was only lowered when the flight attendant made us sit down and eat ...
Arrival was roughly on time I guess ... wasn't too concerned about it truth be told.
Got off the plane, our bags came out pretty quickly, but what's the deal with baggage from the same flight coming out on two carousels?
Grabbed Pixie, auh2o, and AusTXhiker and we go off to the Hertz bus, which takes us to the drop off point, someone tells us to wait there and next thing I know our TownCar is in front of us. We load up the luggage, I sign the paper to purchase the gas and we're off to the HHV (very fast service at Hertz!).
HHV
Check in to HHV ... got a corner room in the Rainbow Tower on the 28 th floor, two balconies with City/Diamond Head/Ocean View ... very nice, especially considering my complimentary Gold VIP status still was not activated yet.
The hotel was very nice, wonderful location. They charge you for everything however, which can wear a bit thin, but considering I was using a Point Stretcher anyway, I wasn't too bothered ...
Rainbow Lanai Restraunt (HHV, Rainbow Tower)
Pixie, AusTXHiker, and I ate here the first morning. Very good buffet, but also very pricey.
Keo's (a few blocks away from HHV)
We ate breakfast here the next three mornings. Good food, very reasonable prices, never very crowded. We also got parking tickets (both ourselves and AusTXhiker) the first morning when we had driven over. I highly recommend this restraunt for breakfast.
Benihana's (HHV)
The food was good, but the service was okay at best ... I didn't manage to last the entire meal as I wasn't feeling well (could have been the sea water I swallowed when auh2o had been swimming earlier ...).
Tanoka's of Tokyo (Ilaki Hotel, next door)
Japanese steakhouse like Benihana's ... pretty good, nothing spectacular.
Sam Choy's Breakfast, Lunch, and Clams
Very good restraunt with a casual setting. Pixie thought it was a bit expensive, but the total tab was $40 each including PremEx's surf and turf and alcoholic beverages http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
HNL RCC
Nice club, lots of seats with phones, had to unplug a lamp to plug the computer in. Free donuts then free finger sandwiches around lunch time. Very friendly service.
HNL-LAX UA 747-200 BC
Much more quiet flight home on the upper deck of the 747-200. Received a cold towel before the meal ... not sure what was up with that. Watched the movie (Bowfinger), good food, drank quite a few Mai Tai's and beers while playing AoE (Age of Empires) on the laptop.
United First tags seemed to work as our bags came off the conveyor pretty quickly (as they had in HNL too).
LAX Hilton
Used a confirmed upgrade to Towers. Room was small, tiny window with no view, but it would do for the night. The continental breakfast was okay in the morning, but the 14% tax is a bit steep I think ... Paid a $90 rate thanks to my new parent corporation's corporate code with Hilton.
LAX-MSY UA 757 FC
Very good food and service on this flight ... they kept the beer flowing. Watched Sixth Sense and again played on the computer for most of the flight. Got in a bit late, because we left a little late while they waited for catering to bring more booze which apparently never arrived. I was disappointed that there was no sundae cart that had been promised to me by PremEx and auh2o (not on lunch flights apparently), they only had some crappy vanilla/raspberry/sherbert TCBY yogurt bar and cookies and milk.
The United First luggage tags did not work at MSY and our bags took quite a while to get off ... did I miss anything?
