This is the way to go--even coach class. Flew NZ1 from LAX to AKL. New 747, but what struck me was that other than the different colors of the tray tables, one could not tell it was new--a tribute to the cleanliness and shape of the NZ planes.
Dinner was impressive. I'd flown FC DCA-DFW on the dinner flight twice in the last week, and food and service was great, and was struck that the tourist class meal on NZ was equal. Both Delta and NZ served filet, potatoes, NZ added additional veggies, salad, cheese, and the wine was better than the red on the second delta trip.
Breakfast was scrambled eggs, sausage, broiled tomato, mushrooms, fresh fruit, yoghurt. Service was attentive. Certainly not anything like the Delta first class flights last week, but in some ways nicer than some other first class flights.
Connection between AKL and BNE varies by the day of the week. I had 90 minutes-time for a shower--towels can be rented. The same 747 turned into NZ 131--two classes of service. Food in business class and coach were the same, but ffs were seated in the business class seats with the videos, etc.
Clearing customs in Brisbane is nice--especially in comparison to the stairs, huge numbers, etc. in Sydney. Free shuttle to the domestic terminal--unlike Sydney, it stays on the road, not on the tarmac.
On the days that the connections are reasonable, a much nicer way to travel.
