Hertz - What should two class upgrade get me?

I'm a bit confused by Hertz's many class codes. I always book a compact, but use a PC code for a two class upgrade. 99% of the time I get the dreaded Mustang. Is this the type of car I should expect for a two class upgrade? I'm not a big fan of two door cars, and I'm not sure if the two class upgrade should get me a 4 door car or not.
I'm guessing that my best bet is to find one of the many one class upgrade coupons which should leave me with a four door intermediate class.
The Mustang is classed as a "standard" which would be two classes up from a "compact". If you reserve an "intermediate - Mazda 626 or similar" your double upgrade should net you a full size -Taurus/Sable. What class of car are you looking to end up with after your upgrade?

I'm limited by company policy to renting compact cars. I'm not picky beyond having a 4 door car so I think I'll go with the one class upgrade coupons from now on to be on the safe side; intermediate is fine with me.
Last time I got a Mustang I asked for a different car, and they gave me a Chevy Classic. Didn't even know such a thing existed...

Always check both midsize and compact rates - in a lot of situations (whether you are using a corporate code or not) you will find almost the exact same rate. I always query all the rates between compact and full-size just to see what they are: I've even found situations where those four or five classes are all within a buck or two a day of each other.
Your other option would be to book economy and use the double-upgrade. That should land you in a midsize (4-door) every time.
If it were me and I were flying into an airport where I knew there would be a dedicated #1 Club Gold staff, I'd book compact + 2x upgrade, and then ask to trade the 'Stang for something else. You got a Classic this time (what is that, anyway?) but I imagine you'd get a Taurus most of the time simply because Tauri are everywhere.

So if I book a full size, and use a two-class upgrade coupon, what would I get?

I'm not sure you can use the double-upgrade on anything beyond the intermediate (which would get you a Premium), but if you did, then you'd be given a one-class upgrade to a Premium, I imagine. The price difference between Premium and Luxury is significant so Hertz doesn't allow upgrades to Luxury (in my experience). Of course, the only difference between a Town Car and a Crown Vic is the TC eats more gas and has less comfortable seats. So while I have rented TCs twice for special occasions, it's always a Premium (Crown Vic) for me.
