Looking to get a car at DUB early next month for a visit to my hometown to see the folks, I logged on, as usual, to www.hertz.com. (http://www.hertz.com.) Price for the intermediate (Ford Mondeo 1.6 manual) was about 113 Euros for three days. But the jump to a standard (BMW 318) was huge ... 273.44 Euros. Going to a luxury (Mercedes E270) cost 359 Euros. A little too rich for me. So then I tried www.hertz.ie (http://www.hertz.ie) ... and quite a difference it made!!! Intermediate was pretty much the same. But standard and luxury, in particular, were MUCH cheaper (quite the opposite of what I had thought) for folks in Ireland! The Mercedes was only 234 Euros (inc. tax and CDW and theft). The Beamer was about 190 Euros. I couldn't get the lower rates using CDP numbers and RQ codes on the website as my US address and UA CDP seemed to override everything. I then called Hertz in Dublin and got the cheaper rates!!! So it pays to shop around a little!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

That is strange! Usually you expect them to try to charge the 'natives' more than the business customer.
Am also planning a trip back to DUB in the next month or two. Those rates seem really good, especially from Hertz. I usually forgo using Hertz in DUB or SNN as they usually seem extremely expensive in comparison to AVIS with discount codes. What kind of rates did you get when you called?

Yes, yes, yes - and the same is true with AVIS! Got much better rates with a European address.
Watch out, some credit cards don't cover CDW in Ireland. Read the fine print of your CC.

I got the much lower rate of 234.42 Euros (inc. CDW and tax and theft protection -- you can't take out the CDW and TP) for the luxury car (Mercedes E270, BMW 530 or Volvo 80) by calling reservations in Dublin ... 011-353-1-676-7476. The agent was able to access to lower rates (compared to what I could on-line at www.hertz.com (http://www.hertz.com) or over the phone here in the US) and then add my #1 Club Gold number. If you want the premium car (Mercedes C180), the rate is 198.00 Euros or thereabouts. The comparable rates available on www.hertz.com (http://www.hertz.com) (using my UA CDP) are 273.44 Euros for a standard (BMW 318), 300+ Euros for the premium and 359 Euros for the luxury (those rates only tax and local service fee, as I decline the insurance and CDW as I have the best car insurance on my Diners Club card!!). Good luck!

This happens in England a lot if your profile states that you don't want to take LDW et al.
A number of the cheap rates ( e.g. weekend rates ) include LDW and so do not get offered if your profile states that you do not take them. e.g. I have been quoted £210 for the weekend rather than £69 since the £69 rate is all inclusive
