Alright, so I am new to the board, and I just had a quick question for you all...
I rented an intermediate car in ATL for the 1st through 8th of january and was wondering what I would have in store for me? the website says that it is a mazda 6 or similar, but we all know how acurate that can be!
all your help is greatly appreicated
and thanks in advance for your help!

Only rented one - a Buick Century at SEA in Dec 2002.
The Altima is an intermediate, but I received a free upgrade to a 2003 Maxima since they did not have any Altimas in.
The new Mazda 6 looks sweet, so that's what I'd ask for in an intermediate.
Hertz is owned by Ford so most of there examples will be a Ford product like Lincoln, Mazda, LandRover, Jaguar ect..
They do carry all makes and models though.
The intermidiate depending on the location can range from the Mazda 626, Mazda 6 (which is replacing the 626), Toyota Corolla, Chevy Cavalier,Hyundia Elantra, ect. The also carry Nissan, and Kia.

alright, thanks for the info...
would definately prefer the mazda, nissan, or toyota over the others...but I guess it all depends on what is there that day...
when checking in is it alright to ask what kind of cars they have available? i would like to know if I had choices other than a cavalier or hyundai (yuck)

Never hurts to ask. I routinely call SEA after booking a premium online and asking for the Toyota Avalon XLS. While this is supposed to be an extra-cost (YG) car, they always give it to me at the basic premium (CrownVic / Grand Marquis) rate.

One warning, I always rent Intermediate and usually get decent cars, but last time I rented from Norfolk, VA airport they gave me a Chevy Cavalier -- and it was marked as an intermediate!
Gimme a break. I really dislike this location -- I like Hertz, but this location treats me like garbarge even though I rent there nearly every week. I've confirmed that at least three other agencies correctly say a Cavalier is a compact car.
I've never gotten a Cavalier elsewhere as an intermediate car, Hertz or otherwise, so hopefully it's just this #%#%# location.
rocflyer,
Ya thats not a problem at all. Just when you arrive ask them and they will give you a list and let you chose from that. Most counters are pretty good at trying to get what you want. There are times when it's just not pos. but they try.

Pitflyer, call 1800CARGOLD and tell them to update your profile to read "NO GM CARS" or, if you want Ford products only, have them indicate that in your profile.
Other than the completely ignorant boneheads at Hertz ORD (which have ignored this 3 times in a row), it's worked like a charm at every other Hertz location. When the Hertz rep asked why I wanted no GM cars in my profile, I told her that if I wanted GM cars, I'd rent from Avis...at (usually) 20% below Hertz.

Yes...
Thank you for the info...I definately appreciate it...I hope that I don't get a cavalier, I really do NOT like GM products...(besides the fact that it is VERY small, and would be quite a tight squeeze for 3 people.)
I thought that the Mazda 6 would be a nice choice, so hopefully that is what they will have...

FWIW, I just finished up a round trip rental made up of two one-ways. I rented an intermediate both ways and what a difference.
I'm not much of a driver (living in NYC, I don't get much chance or cause to drive) so I really appreciate the Never Lost GPS. It really removes a lot of the stress of driving from the equation for me. On my out-bound rental, I got an Altima with the Never Lost. Perfect rental.
When I went to pick up the car for the return trip, I was first told that they did not have any cars with NL installed. Then, they stuck me with a Cavalier. I'd never driven one before but what a piece of crap! It was one of the noisiest cars I'd ever driven and certainly far noisier than the Altima was. It felt more cramped (and I'm not a big guy) and cheaper all around than the Nissan. But the worst sin of all was the non-working power plug. I was planning on listening to my iPod the entire way, just as I had done on the trip out and instead I had to try to tune in the one of six tejano stations in the middle of the AZ-CA desert.
I've generally gone for either compact or intermediate when I've rented with Hertz. I think I've gotten the Mazda on one other occasion and liked it as well, but I must admit that my favorite car that I ever got on a rental was a Jeep Liberty Sport that I got in Vancouver a couple of years ago.

I got a Mazda 6 for $14.50 per day at Omaha two weekends ago, and it was a great car. If you can get a hold of one, I'd highly recommend it.

Cavalier is classified as an Intermediate at LAX and SNA as well. I booked a compact once at LAX and got stuck with an upgrade to a Cavalier. The person searched, but they only had Cavaliers (Intermediate size) at the time and I simply took a Focus then.
