Hertz - Volvo V70 or S80

For the upcoming San Francisco - Las Vegas - San Francisco one week trip, with (2) 5 year olds, which is a better vehicle? Volvo V70 or S80?

V70 will have a little more cargo room, being a wagon, and a little worse mileage, being AWD (and heavier).

You are thinking about the XC model, which is just what you describe.

However, the standard V70 is FWD, and has a 2.5l 5 cylinder engine with 5 speed automatic vs. the 2.9 6 cylinder with 4 speed automatic in the S80 -&gt; the V70 will get better mileage than the heavier S80.


Rental fleets do not have uniform specs. One might end up in a base or loaded model, which is why the websites only list minimum common denominator equipment. Most Prestige Collection cars I've gotten had a sunroof. Some Hertz S80's are twin-turbo models, which sounds sportier than they really are (I'll take the LS or
G35's engine any day, although the S80's seats are the best).

I have always received a V70 Cross Country with AWD, so that is what I went on.

And yes, I agree the S80 has the best seats - just wish they all had the turbo motor, as I find the base 2.9 sufficient, but not as nice as the LS.

You are right that it is a V70 XC AWD. Looks like both are available to look at prior to rental and will report back!
