Has anyone had any experiences with Hertz at San Jose Airport, specifically Gold Service? I am renting there in a week and would like to know what to expect. I normally rent at larger airports (i.e. EWR, LAX, SFO, IAH, etc.), so a smaller location such as SJC will be a first for me. Thanks in advance for your input.

SJC uses "airport buses" to take you over to the Hertz lot. Gold service has always been good there for me, pretty seamless. The Gold lot isn't covered, but there is the readerboard with the familiar yellow letters on it.

When you get off the bus at the Hertz/Avis stop (the driver will announce it), go to your right as you exit the bus facing the rental car building/counters and you'll see the Hertz Gold booth/signage area & lot.

It's separate from the regular Hertz rental check-in building.

Yes, there is gold service, and they've always been one of the most pleasant Hertz locations I've rented from.

What will freak you out as a first-time SJC visitor is not the car rentals, but the lack of Jetways (for most airlines). It just seems absurd not to have a jet bridge to a plane in the heart of Silicon Valley. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks for the info - one of the reasons why I love FlyerTalk. Sounds like I can expect a positive experience.

Terminal A at SJC has jetbridges (WN and AA, I think), while terminal C (AS and ?) does not, but I understand that's being rectified in the future. A lot of the west coast and Canadian flights I've done on -8's and other regional feeder types (like Embraer 21's) also mainly disembark via either "rollup" or aircraft integrated stairs vice jetways (SEA, GEG, BOI, EUG, PDX, YLW). IIRC, BUR also has no jetbridges, at leasts for the AS flights I've been on. I'm sure there are other airports as well. Kinda quaint, I think, unless it's pouring rain.
