I'm thinking to rent a baby Jag (X-Type) for one day. Just wondering is that worth $95/day/unlimited miles? Any other discount apply?

Thanks!

I've rented Navigators quite a few times, most discounts found on the website (including the weekend free day) work...

is it worth it? that's up to you. i rented an XJ8 for a day in houston once, for a family event. the family enjoyed riding in style, so it was worth it to me. and the prestige service was nice--when i got to the lot, the a/c was already running (in houston in june, this is a *good* thing), and they were just about done polishing the tires.

it comes down to this: price a taurus. price a jag. subract A from B, and decide if you're willing to pay that much more to be in a jag. usually the answer is no. but every now and then, it's yes, and you've just gotta go with it. :-)

Just got back from driving around Chicagoland for 4 days in a Volvo S80. I had already booked a Taurus for around $85/day, when I remebered I had received a promotional offer tied to my being a USAir Gold Preferred member. Result: the Volvo for $70/day. I actually would have paid even if the prices were reversed. While I think the Taurus/Sable is a good highway car, the difference was sweet.

$85 / day sounds a bit high, but the last time I rented in Chicago was on a weekend. Got an Impala from Avis for a total of $28 for two weekend days.

I have rented the Lincoln LS and the Lincoln Navigator.

Navigator - nuff said. Big and comfy. Just what I look for when transporting six friends in style.

LS - loved the power, the handling, and the sunroof (am a fresh-air fan). But I was shocked how "cramped" it was (I am 6' 2"). The driver seat adjustment is really poor and not much "legroom". Guess cause it shares a platform with the Jaguar Type S (which I expect to be cramped, being a Jag).

So back to Town Cars for me, though I do want to try the S80.

The S-Type is a sweet car, though arguably not worth the $115/day charged by LAX Hertz. It's a great deal by comparison though...In Nice, France, was offered a MB S320 for (*choke*) FFR14000 per week (=USD2100).

I've had the x-type - nice car, good power, but with a few bugs and some cheap components. I would be just as happy with the Maxima SE with a sunroof.

I'm a total convert to Prestige Collection. Every rental has been fantastic - even in NYC. These cars are always in tip-top condition and I've never had one with more than 10,000 miles on the odometer. So far, I've had the Jaguar X-Type, S-Type, and XJ8; the Volvo S70XC and S80; the Lincoln Navigator and LS; and the LandRover Discovery. While they are expensive, if you're renting in NYC they aren't a whole lot more money, and elsewhere $75-$105/day seems a bargain for a Jag compared to $80/day for a Taurus or $105/day for an Explorer in Manhattan. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I have a paper coupon that says as low as $69 on select prestige collection rentals. It expires 6-30-03 and must be presented. The PC# is 175453. Good on daily, weekly, or wekend rates.

Try it and if it returns a good rate, e-mail me and I'll send you the certificate.

For those who don't own cars and rely on your credit card for car rental insurance, I am fairly certain that most CC rental policies do not apply to fancy cars.

Would the Prestige rental be worth it with another ~ $20/day for insurance? Hmmm...

I have spoken with Diners Club in Canada and every time they tell me that as long as I don't take the car off road then I am coverered regardless of vehicle rented.

I have yet to test this theory but they keep telling me there is no limit on coverage the three or four times I have phoned in.

Just handed back a one day rental of the X-Type...out of MIA service is the same as #1 Club Gold, so no big deal there....although car was absolutely brand new (I was the first renter http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif).

Don't think about the X-Type if you are over 6' tall though, it is a bit cramped....the roof line comes in at the sides...

To be honest, for freeway driving I don't think it really matters what you rent, just make sure you get a good one if driving in the UK...plenty opportunities there to get off the freeway and have some fun !

DC in Canada may be different, but here in the US there are limitations on the makes and models of cars covered. It's stuff like Ferrari and Lamborghinis that are not covered along with large vehicles like commercial trucks and RV's. In general I don't think there's anything from Hertz that wouldn't be covered by the US DC card except a large passenger van (anything that seats over 8 is not covered).

Even though I said DC Canada may be different, I'd be willing to bet dollars to donuts they have some restrictions, such as cargo vans and vehicles seating more than 8 people.

Rented an Jag X-type in STL two weeks ago.
The NeverLost system would not power up. I complained and received a $25/day credit. Especially nice since I lived in STL for the first 33 years of my life.

I guess it was nice at $89 (pre-discount). However, I too prefer the Town Car. (My golf clubs and hard-shell container would not fit in the trunk of Jag.)

My last trip out of PVD, I had rented a mid-szie. What a suprise when I received my keys and it was a X type with 308 miles on it. Definitely woth every penny of the $29/day!! Needless to say, it didn't get returned until the absolute last minute.

I've liked the S80 myself - once paid for an S60 and got it instead, and once got it as the location was out of a premium car.
