I reserved a Fullsize car at the STL Hertz for an upcoming 2 1/2 week trip.

I really need a Premium vehicle so I am planning on asking for(demanding) the 5* comp upgrade at the Gold counter when I pick the car up.

I'm picking up the car on the weekend so they should have plenty of cars.

Do you think this will work or should I reserve the Premium?

Reserve the full size, you should get the premium. If you don't, go to the gold counter and ask if one is available. STL (IMO) does not have the best customer service (front counter) staff, but you should be able to get what you ask for.

It should work, but if you really need a Premium I'd suggest checking out Avis, Budget, and National too to see what their rates are for a confirmed reservation for a Premium car ... it may not be worth the chance of not getting one if you can reserve one somewhere else for a similar price as you would pay at Hertz for the full-size.

i was at BDL last night, in line behind a guy with a full size reservation, who NEEDED an expedition. the agent wasn't biting. i took my one-class upgrade, and left before he finished his whining, so i didn't get to see what happened... i hope he got a taurus with 30,000 miles on it.

I am 5 Star, and I have found STL to be better than some other locations with upgrades. I have rented cars there twice (on weekends) and I was upgraded automatically from full-size to premium both times.

I feel if you go in demanding a upgrade, they will tell you it's not available and give you the worst of the pick of Full Size. Go in there nicely and you will get what you want more often.
