Hertz - Frequent Flier miles while renting at Hertz and using Corporate Credti Card.

Hi,

My company books my rental car through Hertz. They book it at corporate rate.

Hertz charges up to 2 $ for car rental period for getting frequent flier miles.

So if I want Miles for my rental , I have to pay 2 $ to Hertz which will be charged to my corporate credit card.

This will look bad as my company will be getting carged 2 $ for me to get frequent flier miles.

How to make it happen so that I pay Hertz 2 $ and they give me frequent flier miles and it doesn't appear on my bill ?.

Thanks.

So far, Hertz is only charging the fee for miles. However, Hertz points and other affiliates are not charged this fee (as far as I know, so far). I personally claim Holiday Inn points for my rentals (using my corporate card and rate). Hertz gives 125 points per day and there is usually a deal going on to get double points or even triple points. The Holiday Inn points are more valuable (in my mind) than the couple of airline miles I could get. 10,000 HI points will get me a free night at an Express, which I can get in as little as 40 (with double points)(my value for this is about $80). In contrast, airline miles are given out at 50 miles per day. I am sure their are bonuses that can be had, but I do not follow those, so cannot comment on those. But let's just say for the sake of argument, you get double miles. It would take 250 days (with double miles) to get a domestic award saver ticket on most airlines(My value for this would be about $400).

So for at least 6 times the number of rentals, you would get approximately $80 (plus all the $2 fees you had to pay) LESS benefit.

So, my suggestion is to switch how you are collecting points/miles from Hertz and get away from the $2 dilemma altogether. BTW, I have not explored it in great detail but Hertz points don't look too bad. They have a list of things they can convert to, including free rentals, etc.

Hope this helps.

You can collect hotel points, Hertz #1 award points, or FF miles on a foreign carrier (like BA) without a FF surcharge (the "up to $2 amount") That way you still earn points in a program but your company doesn't get charged. I opted for #1 Award points. I have gotten several coupons in the mail for $ off since I switched to this.

look at the #1 Awards program link on the left.

Hi,

Here is the solution.

Hertz says you can do it 2 ways.

1) Once you paid for car rental with your corporate card, ask them to charge another 2$ to your own card to get miles.
2) Mail everything to Hertz and they will charge 2 $ to your personal credit card.

We have a offer now from Priority Club for 250 points for each day rental upto 9/30/2003.

Also Onepass has bonus of 500 miles + 50 miles per day till 6/30/2003.

Hertz doesn't charge a fee to earn miles and hotel points for all airlines. For example, there's no charge for earning AA miles. Wouldn't it be easier to just take the miles in a program with no fee?

Or, you can just select ZE1 (Hertz) points instead. There's no fees when taking ZE1.

BTW, I haven't had any problem getting reimbursed for the total cost of a rental including the miminal FF excise tax when they charged it.

I doubt I'd have a problem getting reimbursed for this either ... but I'd never knowingly pass such an unnecessary fee along to my employer and clients anyway. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I agree 100%. So when they started the new fees, I switched to ZE1.

I feel like for 1 week rental you get 350 + 500 bonus miles on onepass. I think I will pay 2 $ fee for 850 miles . It is not bad for just 2 $.

I am assuming you have a PC# that gets you 500 bonus points. Just make sure that it does not require a specific CO CDP# to use it. If it does and you use it instead of your corporate CDP# you may lose benefits that would normally be covered under your corporate CDP# (like insurance covg)

At my previous job, our company required all car rentals use the corporate number for insurance coverage and so other employees could drive the vehicle w/o addtl driver's fees.

This could make a difference if you have an accident.
