Hertz - ridiculous rates in canadaView Full Version : ridiculous rates in canada zhaobao Jun 11, 03, 12:55 pm Did anybody notice that July 4th weekend rates for canada jumped from low CAD 30s a couple of weeks ago to high CAD 40s this week ? A320 EOW Jun 11, 03, 1:02 pm I wouldn't call "high CAD 40s" ridiculous. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif It's still a holiday in the US and they want to profit from tourists that might go northward. zhaobao Jun 11, 03, 1:10 pm Actually... this is the specific...... At YVR.... Full size with some PC can be priced at CAD 36. But for intermediate, which is one grade below, it's CAD 49..... This does not make sense at all. The price for intermediate car when I looked at it two weeks ago with some PC can be priced at CAD 29.99 [This message has been edited by zhaobao (edited 06-11-2003).] cattle Jun 11, 03, 6:22 pm So take the full size. It sounds like, but I'm not sure, that you might be American. If so the $36 rate really is a steal. Rates go up all the time as you get closer to the date of arrival for anything. Airline tickets, hotels and cars. Enjoy your long weekend http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif zhaobao Jun 11, 03, 6:53 pm Actually, I'm Canadian, and I don't want to navigate down Granville with a Full Size. cattle Jun 12, 03, 9:15 am I don't blame you. Rent the full size and then just take the mid size when you pick it up. They aren't going to re-calculate it. As much as I am not a fan of Budget you may want to go to www.budget.ca (http://www.budget.ca) as they seem to be offering 1 free day on 3 day weekend and a bunch of other good deals. I don't use them domestically but was checking them out for Europe and came across their web site specials. zhaobao Jun 12, 03, 3:22 pm Gave up on Hertz. Managed to get something decent on Avis instead. I did manage to dig up some 1-day free coupon for Hertz if I rent a full size. Would save me CAD 8 vs. if I rent Intermediate on Avis. But then, going back to the idea of narrower roads in Vancouver........ The 1-day free thing with Budget only applies to rentals beginning before June 30, but thanks for the tip anyway. =) |
