I am currently a member of Avis Preferred Select and Hertz #1 Club Gold. I just called Hertz Gold and talked to the Customer Relations mamager. She refused to comp me to Five Star status.
Any solutions? Thanks!

I was told by cust serv that you do not get 5* until the year after your earn it (say i do 10 rentals this year, i don't get the status until jan 1 next year). Has anyone else experienced this?

Just rent ten times as soon as you can. After you complete the ten rentals, e-mail Hertz asking for the upgrade to Five Star. This worked for me last year- I got a Five Star card about a month after my message and the status was upgraded on hertz.com a few days after I received a response from the representative at Hertz (no more than 24 hrs.).

I called Hertz after I made 10 rentals. CS told me they will send a note and the computer will recognize five star and the land package will arrive after the computer makes its sweep. With changes at national Hertz is the bNatioanl

Where on Hertz.com can you check your status? I've been a 5 star for months and have my card but have never seen anywhere on hertz.com where it says that I'm a 5 star and I have had a number of rentals where the guy tells me when I pick it up that he doesn't see it on my profile. Where on hertz.com would it tell me if I'm listed as 5 star in the computer system?
Thx in advance.

Wonders what the big deal is? I made five star and have seen no difference in the vehicles or service.

Unfortunately, you'll often need to go into the service center to ask for an upgrade as a Five Star. My upgrades are taken care ~90% of the time as a President's Circle member, but my track record was much poorer as Five Star. It's unfortunate that it works out that way, but I wouldn't count on Hertz changing anytime soon. From my experience, Hertz is very good on the after-the-fact customer service, but not so hot on the pre-emptive stuff.

That's the problem- it doesn't say anywhere on the website that you're Five Star. The only thing you see when you log-in is your name and #1 Club Gold member. I don't think I had any confirmations of my status outside of the e-mail from the Hertz representative and upgraded cars awaiting me when I arrived. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

At least you got the upgraded cars, if that was the case for me, then I wouldn't care if I could find my status online. Just about every week I have to go back to the counter (same city by the way) and ask for my 5 Star upgrade. One time I asked if they can see the 5 Star on my profile and the guy was like, nope doesn't say anything.

Finally I know what the 5 stars card is all about! Got it a year ago and newer thought of it as something special. I will give it a try next time. Now I am curious, what is that President's Circle thing? I saw it at LAX and SFO.

40+ rentals per year. It usually earns you an upgrade, and also gets you occasional "bonus" free day certs that are quite valuable. Not to mention luggage tags...

Cool. I'm dropping to 5* this year, and it's nice to know that I'll still get those. They seem to show up at random and don't seem correlated to my rental activity. With PC, I got about 3 a year. If 5* gets me 2 a year, I will be happy!

Exactly. They shine after the fact, but have short memories of what was wrong in the first place.
The cycle goes on and on, even at the same location:
(week 1) Reservation mistakes
(week 2) Body Damage, Engine Trouble - Ask for better car
(week 3) Good Car
(week 4) Cigarette Smoke
(week 5) Low/Flat Tire
(week 6) Smoking Engine - Ask for better car
(week 7) Good Car...

You're supposed to get one certificate for every 20 rentals ...

I've been PC for the second straight year now and I've never gotten any certificates. They always send me multiple cards but never and coupons or certs. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
