Hertz - Is it just me or are the Gold upgrade cars always messed up?

This past weekend took the cake at IAD. I reserved a Grand Marquis and got the upgrade to the Town Car. Everything looked fine from the back as I loaded my luggage. Security guard took my paperwork as normal. Get to my destination and find that the front bumper is bashed in on the passenger side. I'm already in southern MD and don't want to go back to IAD. Call the Gold number and they give me road services. Told road services that it was messed up and everything is recorded.
Just wondering how I keep getting cars with body damage as upgrades from Gold. I had a Grand Marquis from JFK once that had a dent in the rear bumper. The only cars that are ok are the ones I get in my original rental class. But then I get some really stained cars in my rental class too.

I've never had any real problems.

Actually, it was nice that you got an upgrade. A town car is a much better and saver car than a Grand Marquis.
Regarding the bumps etc. some of the cars I got from Hertz had some scratches, bumps etc. If it is too bad, I don't take the car.
Mostly the Hertz cars are O.K.
I don't know if National is still alive, at the "Emerald Row" you can/could select the car you like.

I know it takes time, and I hate to do it... but, once I stow my luggage, I always do a quick once over of the car for dents and such.
Not only to make sure that I don't get blamed for them, but for the sake of safety. The one time I didn't check, I was stuck with a minivan in Ohio at the end of November with a back window that qouldn't quite shut all the way. Even with the heater on, my poor Arizona body was cold. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I got a Ford Escape with 87 miles on it this weekend (upgraded from a full size) ...
Of course, this was after my previous rental where I also got upgraded to a Ford Escape with 12,000 miles that had seen much better days even at that point ...

I reserved a two-door sporty this week and was asked if the Toyota Camry upgrade was OK? I kind of hesitated and the gold desk clerk then mentioned that he had a Ford Escape if I would like that. I took it. It had 61 miles on it. I won't when I get done with!!!! Thanks for the upgrade Hertz!!!
BTW, I am 5 star gold, so that may be why I was offered the upgrade upfront. This was my first rental since becoming 5 star. Keep up the good work Hertz.

I'm PC, and my full-size rentals have been generating SUV's lately. I got one at ORD that was pretty trashed all around - little dings everywhere, pretty ratty interior, about 22000 miles. I think it was random bad luck - an average Hertz car is typically newer and cleaner than the average Alamo, National, Budget, etc. car.
My only complaint is that Hertz never turns loose the luxury car for me. They always hook me with an SUV if one is available, but no Town Cars or Volvos for me. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I finally got a Volvo last month during my travels through OHIO. What a sweet ride! I would love to learn the trick to make this happen all the time!
