Hertz - Any thoughts on Hertz vs Avis

I'm currently Preferred Select with Avis and get treated very well but alas I am at 21 rentals so far this year and my status won't get any better with them.

I was currious if I should try to go for 5* or do you think I should stay with Avis where I get upgrades quite often. I am interested in seeing if I can get Volvo's and Jags. Do they really upgrade people to these?

How about your treatment as Frequent Renters?

I have read your posts over the last couple of weeks and just can't decide if its worth the aggrivation. I rent soley in Canada from Vancouver to Halifax and everywhere in between.

I am fully aware of the problems that get repeated constantly about US locations but would appreciate any Canadian experiences(eh!)

I have been offered Ford Mustang and Jaguar as an upgrade from mid-size and recently got to drive a Toyota Highlander as my "mid-size" car!! I have had great service from Hertz in Canada (YYZ for the most) with clean cars and decent rates. National is history for me!

I find ford's cars genearlly preferable to GM's (especially in the Full Size and SUV categories) so I always pick Hertz over Avis when it makes sense.

Thanks for the help. I may give them a try next time I am in YYZ in June.

Haven't really driven many Fords so it might be worth a try although I know that I don't like the Tarus. I can always cross my fingers.

I am President's Circle w/ Hertz and Predident's Club w/ Avis. I have not rented from Hertz on a regular basis in quite some time. However, if they would upgrade me to Jags and Land Rovers (Avis does Caddys and better) I would come back.

I'm 5* with Hertz and Preferred Select with Avis (they are roughly comparable), and Avis' customer service blows away Hertz. I have what I would consider to be a significant problem with Hertz every third rental or so (that results in a letter to customer service) ... I have never had what I would consider to be a significant problem with Avis.

Fords blow and GMs suck - Since I would rather be in a car that blows than sucks, I go with itHertz! Besides...the occasional S80 brightens the day.
