Hertz - Trouble at IAD

Flew into IAD several times over the previous several months. Every time, my wait for the bus was entirely too long. Once there, they sit there forever until the bus is all but stuffed. Because of the # of Gold members, it takes forever for the driver to check everyone in. Very frustrating. The last time, once at the lot one of the boards wasn't working so we had to go inside and wait forever to find out where our car was parked. Very frustrating. Hertz undoubtedly needs more buses running at IAD.

There seems to always be a very long wait at IAD, but I think it has alot to do with the construction congestion as well.
The organization there seems to be a little off--as a Presidents CIrcle member I often get the most rotten cars they have--seems to me it should be the other way around.
Good luck--my next trip is back to DCA.

I rent at the IAD loction twice a month (pick up 8am and return by 4pm). Last week the board wasn't working, but a cheerful lady was there with a clipboard that had everyone's name on it and 2 mins later I was off. Overall I've not had to waste all too much time on those busses- maybe just lucky!

I used IAD once a couple weeks ago because DCA didn't have a late enough flight. What a horrible experience. I got a Mustang (which I despise) and it was mechanically horrible and really dirty. It idled at over 3000rpm and when you let go of the brake the car lurched forward. Someone also spilled a soft drink or something on the wheel and dash and it was all sticky. I tried to take the car back but it was 1am in the morning and a hurricane was passing through town. The lady said they didn't have anything else. When I left the lot, the guy who checks your ID was far from friendly. I asked him the best way to get to 495 and his response was, "How should I know?" I thought he was joking with that type of response but he wasn't. I learned my lesson, no more renting from Hertz at IAD ever again.

I live 10 miles from IAD and I quite frequently use the Hertz there on the weekends instead of taking my car on long weekend trips. However, I don't use the bus, as I'll either park in the economy lot across from the Hertz or have someone drop me off and just walk over to pick up the car. I got a standard car (dodge intrepid) this past weekend for 2 days for $42 using the business account coupon. Not bad considering I put close to 600 miles on the car (which had 1,135) to begin with. Saves wear and tear on mine.
